FH & I are adamant about being at our cocktail hour. His family is coming over from England and my friends and family are coming from all over the US...It is important that we be able to spend as much time with them at the wedding.
Our ceremony is at two. (Our ceremony will be 20 mins) Cocktail hour is at 4:30pm. The chapel we are getting married at is too small to have a receiving line. But my parents will probably fight us on it.
Would it be rude to leave the chapel immediately after the ceremony to have our pictures taken? Should we have our officiant make an announcement that due to the small size of the chapel, the Bride & Groom will be having a receiving line at the Reception?
**I should have mentioned we are leaving immediately to get all our photos taken in time for cocktail hour.

Re: Receiving Line...picture issue...
If you decide not to do a receiving line- please make sure you great each and every guest at your cocktail hour and reception.
We are not doing one due to timing and having everything in one place.

I'm not having a receiving line for the same reason. I will be at the cocktail hour greeting, then we may do a mini-line entering the reception - not sure about that yet though.

I think you should do one greeting everyone coming into your cocktail hour (have mnst. make the announcment). I went to a wedding recently were it (the rec line) was in a small space and it was totally rushed and akward ..... I think it would be cool for you to say hello and greet as many people as possiable at 1st that way you can have more time to pty at the reception !!!!

We had a recieving line on the way into the cocktail hour for the same reason as you. We really wanted to attend our cocktail hour.
I guess it was more like a greeting line then a recieving line but still served its purpose.

technically i think you CAN have the receiving line at either the chapel or the cocktail hour. i know the knot had some articles on this when i looked around in july to see how to do our receiving line (order of parents, us, and bp).

If you are having a program, maybe at the end you could put a note that the bride and groom will be departing right after the ceremony so that they may greet their guests at the coctail hour. Just be sure to acknowledge people who came to the ceremony to see you but will not be attending the reception.

i think no receiving line is fine as long as you greet everyone at the reception

Re: Receiving Line...picture issue...
my friends did an alternative receiving line...after ceremony they came back into the church (the pastor made announcement to stay seated) and the greeted each guest as they left the pew (they did one pew at a time)
