I have been doing some research online that states that if you are having a wedding of over 75 people you should have a receiving line. I feel this will be time consuming and my DH really wants to enjoy our festivities. We are invitingabout 150-175 people. We are getting married a church in Great Neck around 4:00 and having our reception at Douglaston Manor at 7:30. This way I feel like we would have time for our photos and to see RH before the wedding starts. I thought we would greet people as soon as they came into the CH. I am not sure everyone will make it to the church otherwise I would do the receiving line there after the ceremony before the pictures. Does anyone have any suggestions? I definitely know going table to table takes up way to much time because of the chatty people.

Re: RECEIVING LINES
Normally people say hello as they exit the church. Then they wait outside to throw rice or blow bubbles ect. Anything more than that isn't needed in my opinion. If you don't want to go from table to table at the reception then don't.

Re: RECEIVING LINES
Hi!!
I also think a Recieving line is time consuming. But i think you do have to do something at either the CH or during the reception-not sure if after the ceremony would be good since like you said you might not get to greet everyone.
Good friends of ours got married a few years ago; and did a receiving line at the church; then went around to the tables at the reception. Since they had already greeted most of the people who were at the church; it cut back on time chatting at the tables. They basically just went around and hugged everyone and collected wedding cards. It went really fast (at least it seemed like it did from a guests perspective) And i don't remember them missing any dancing or eating.
maybe you can do something like that?? Plus most people aren't going to hold you for more than a hug and kiss; and you just have to make sure to keep it moving! LOL!

Re: RECEIVING LINES
We both have large families so I anticipate at least (hopefully most) 150 guests, which even if that's 30 seconds a guest it would be 75 minutes. I am sure it will work itself out. I am leaning more towards having most of my meet and greet right after the wedding ceremony.

Re: RECEIVING LINES
exactly-if you can get most of it out of the way after the church than that's better. Who wants to spend 75minutes greeting people. You want to enjoy your day! I think my also had about 150 people; and i can't remember then taking over an hour walking around to tables. Plus remember if there's a lot of couples or groups of people-you can knock out 2-4 people in one greeting! Cut back on your time. Have your FH hug one person while you hug the other and then swap-don't waste time waiting to hug/talk to someone. Key advice-keep things moving.

Re: RECEIVING LINES
DO A RECEIVING LINE!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me... Going around to the tables to make sure we said hello was so time consuming... Doesnt matter when its done... After the ceremony... as people are entering CH, or as they walk into the reception... however you have to work it, do it! I regret that part of my wedding... going to the tables took away so much time

Re: RECEIVING LINES
We are taking pictures before the cermeony so that we can make it to our CH and great everyone or as many as we can there. That way our reception is ours to enjoy. I just think the receiving line will take to much time. We are having about 100 people and some are very long winded and will want to have an entire conversation with us

Re: RECEIVING LINES
I think a receiving line is necessary, especially since there may be some guests who attend the ceremony and not the reception. It also gives you a chance to say hello to everyone!

Re: RECEIVING LINES
we are doing a receiving line.
Our church is at 3:00pm. If we do the full mass we figure with the receiving line we should be done by 4pm. That gives out guests staying in the hotel enough time to check in and get themselves settled. We are going to do a few pics outside the church and then the BP is going somewhere else to take pics (haven't decided where yet but someone along the way). I want to be able to have all pictures done before the cocktail hour because I want to use the cocktail hour time to walk around and meet and greet everyone so we won't have to do that once we are inside.
