Reception

Do you guys think that Port Jefferson is too far for family in queens to drive out to for a reception?

No, I drove from the Bronx to Port Jeff for a wedding and reception once. If they sincerely want to celebrate with you, they will be there

The only time this may pose a problem is when most of your family and friends don't drive.

my ex lived in port jeff and i found the ride not to be bad at all. i live in queens.

May I ask where you are looking in Port Jefferson?

It is a great little town, your family may even want ot make a weekend out of it, and stay over night.

I had my reception at The Meadow Club. It was wonderful! I can't say enough great things about them.
I live in Nassau County and the Meadow Club is about a 40 minute ride for us. It was fine. I had people come from NJ on a Sunday for the wedding, and then to The Meadow Club, and no one complained. If people really want to celebrate with you, they will be there.

Most people are going to say that its not too far of a drive...and no drive will be too far for the people who really want to be there. But understand that a 3-4 hour drive (roundtrip) is a lot to ask guests. That shouldn't stop you from having a wedding where YOU want it held but be prepared for some negative reactions/declines as a result.

I live in queens and the drive to pt. jeff isn't bad, especially since i live on the north shore of queens and pt. jeff is also on north shore.
Sometimes there is traffic, though.

We gave a lot of thought to this also! My FH is from Staten Island & lots of his family is from Jersey, also. We decided that we would have our reception where we wanted. We had a few minor grumblings, but nothing major. We also decided to provide a minibus in the afternoon for guests who are checking into the hotel & need to go to the church, then later for all hotel guests to the reception. This lets everyone relax & have fun!

Don't worry too much, I agree that wherever you get married, your family & friends will come!!
