reception dress - need help

Original post by Future Mulligan

i bought a dress to wear after cake cutting (for the last hour and a half of the reception) BUT i'm not sure if i am feeling it anymore - any websites where i could browse dresses? i want something short, sexy and maybe lace - do any wedding dress designers make reception dresses? any good websites to check out? ive been googling since last night but haven't found anything yet

the middle dress is the dress i bought - i was going to have the hem taken up (im short so it was really long on me plus i wanted something short - like mid thigh) but now im feeling Ehhh about it

I actually think that dress is really cute, are you sure you want to get another one?

I luv the bottom one

Seriously I wish I remembered what TV show it was on WE that this bride had an amazing lace gown and for the reception the bottom part came off! IT was HOTT! I seriously was so pisssed I didn't have it haha ... I'm going to search for it, because I think you'd look so hott in it!

That was on Platinum Weddings and I believe she had a Monique Lhullier dress, where the bottom part came off...Love her stuff

good thinking with the boob thing! i like that one boob has the sparkly but at the same time it could look weird i guess i am into asymmetry - im wearing my hair to one side

its a jovani - how they heck am i going to find this dress? i tried searching for stores that carry it through their website but nothing....maybe i can try googling the style #?

i know 2 stores that carry jovani and one of them carries only jovani dresses. They're both in queens though

also if you go to www.shopdress.com they carry jovani

the mandalay dresses are real nice too

hahahaha - well the reason i thought of it was because my FH and i both loved christina aguilera's wedding - she had a winter wedding with blue lighting, lots of crystals & white branches at her reception - which is where we got the ideas for our reception and she also wore a really hot reception dress - so that was my insipiration - plus my FH and i love to dance and i just can't imagine dancing around in my wedding dress - i know that the last hour is going to be hard core dancing and we are having a crazy DJ for the last set - so i wanted something more free and my FH really really wants to see me in something that shows more skin than my wedding dress - so he is pushing for it also

just dont wear a short dress for the garter, TRUST ME everyone will see everything lol

you'll be surprised what you can do in your wedding dress, i thought i would barely be able to dance, and dh and i love dancing. I had no problems though...i couldnt do all the foot steps you do with house and even certain hip hop songs bc the length of the dress though...but it was good bc otherwise i wouldve done that all night and with hair extensions i would've been sweating so much, that happened at my e-party lol.

no im not even wearing a garter at all we arent doing the garter toss so i figured no point in wearing one hahahahaha - i get really hot from dancing i think i will die if i keep my wedding dress on - it was pretty heavy for me and its one of the lightest dresses i tried on!

yeah i get the same way, unfortunately you get pulled in sooo many directions i didnt get to dance ALL night but its ok lol. Between speech, stopping for dinner, photo montage, video trailer, dance with parents, cake cutting, and guests pulling you in every direction to talk and take pics i wasnt on the dance floor all night, otherwise i would've been real hot and sweaty. There was one time i was dancing i had to slow it down a bit bc i felt i was getting real hot. But even before you change into a shorter dress, dont worry you'll be able to dance...i thought i would have to stand in one spot just moving around alittle...but they formed a circle around me and dh and i just thought oh no i cant do this right now, but was surprisingly able to manage.

im pretty sure once im used to wearing it i will be ok - just in the store i wasnt able to walk around much - plus it still needed a hem so i was stepping all over it

i found a priscilla of boston store in NJ that has the MARI dress - i want to try it on - i still have to find someone who carries the Jovani though!

Those dresses are cute...but is there a reason why you want to change?

a lot of reasons - to be more comfortable, to do something different, b/c my FH thinks it would besexy , im not really comfortable in a big dress - i like to be free - i only want to change for the last hour or two of the reception - i figure after we cut cake and the VH starts ill change - VH is on the dancefloor so people will just be getting their dessert, i wont really be missing much if i sneak out - plus at that point my FH is probably going to put his sneakers on its basically just us showing off our personalities - something personal and different - and its us being US for the last hour

yeah dont worry you'll get used to it...in the store i could barely turn around with my dress...i was real nervous about wearing it all day. When the limo's came to my house and i got in the car, i had trouble even sitting in my dress, i sat on the edge of the seat...when i got to the church i had so much trouble walking up the stairs, well thats bc at that point my dress wasnt bustled so i had to hold the whole train in my hand along with my cathedral veil but also hold the bottom part in the front up when walking up the stairs, i needed help lol. Then once we were taking pics i did get alot more comfortable in the dress, well once i bustled it i should say, bc i needed help getting on and off the bus and walking i had to stop and say wait i need to get my train and veil lol...once it was bustled i was fine with walking everywhere, and dancing was not a problem. My dress was real heavy too, when dh tried picking up my dress to put it in the garment bag it came in he even said OMG this thing is so heavy, i told him to take it slowly and be carefuly bc that thing weighs ALOT, he had no idea how i wore it all night but once it was on it felt ok

well be careful with jovani dresses too...most range from about $600-900. The place i bought my e-party dress from sells jovani and so does another place across the street, that one sells basically JUST jovani dresses. In the store all you see is the dress tags with a price of $700 or higher...i think some can be between $500-600 but depends.
