Reception hall

I'd like to get information on places I could rent to have my reception that DOES NOT include catering. I would like my family to cater it so I'm just looking for a nice place, one that also allows me to have both the ceremony and reception at one location. HELP! Preferred locations: Brooklyn, Bay Ridge, Queens, Long Island.

The Puc building in NYC allows you to bring in your own cater. The building fee is about $6500 (or around that).

As far as I know....

most places that rent out space will require you to use a caterer that has had experience in the space. I have a few suggestions in Brooklyn (depending upon your guest list) but all require you use an experienced, licensed caterer.

Nassau Cty Museum of Art in Roslyn

I'm not sure if you can bring in your own caterer, but the space is lovely. They let you have the reception outdoors. They have A LOT of land and lots of cool sculptures all over the property. I thought about looking into having my reception there, but once I realized I'd be responsible for procuring everything, I knew it would be too much work for me. But I'm sure the guests would have a lot of fun, and the photos would be great!

Nassau Cty Museum of Art in Roslyn

I posted several weeks ago that I looked into this facility for my wedding last year. It is a very beautiful space! However, it's not the same as some of the catering halls. They actually set up a dining tent off of one of the rooms in the museum. The room would be where your band would play and dancing would take place. The dining tent is strictly for eating...again, not ideal, but it depends on the type of affair you are planning. I remember the event coordinator being very, very helpful regarding recommendations for caterers, florists and other vendors that have worked events there. The procurement process would not be difficult at all. If you're looking for something truly unique, it's worth investigating. My apologies...I can't remember the site fee.

Try the vanderbilt in long island, it is beautiful, and you can bring your own caterer.
