Reception hall charges

Reception hall charges

I just booked my reception at Jericho Terrace The price did not include tax and gratuity, just as I expected, but they are also charging a service charge of 18%. I thought this was a lot and was just wondering if other halls charge this much, if they even have a service charge at all.

That gratuity seems high.

Congrats on booking!

In case you haven't seen it, take a look at the
Official Jericho Terrace Thread!

I had my reception there...this is a link to my review!

Now on to your question...yes, most halls charge a service charge. This is not gratuity but rather a fee that they claim goes toward the bathroom attendants, waiters, servers, etc. that work there.

Happy planning!

Generally the gratuity and the service charge are one and the same, it is only a matter of what the particular hall calls it. Every hall I looked at (@20) had a charge of either 18% or 20%. A tip for the maitre d' is separate and apart from this fee (be it a service charge or a gratutity).

To the best of my knowledge there is no other tipping/gratuity to be paid to reception site.

There are of course the tips for limo drivers etc.

So they are charging you $$pp plus 18% grat plus 8.625% tax plus another 18% service charge. That is too much.

were paying 125pp plus 18% grat plus tax & a house fee of $500. I think many halls do charge a house fee, but it's not 18%, thats insane.

Re: Reception hall charges

what is the differnce between service charge and gratuity?

I worked in the catering bussiness for year and never heard of both being charged

I am only getting charged tax and 18% service charge

I would look into that if you are getting charged both- that doesn't seem right-

these words are used interchangeably...
depending who you talk to, one will call it something while the other calls it the other.
Technically, you can tax the service charge when graduatity isnt tax.

you shouldnt be charge both cuase they are really the same. you are just agreeing to gradutity upfront as oppose to when you go out to a resturant, you have the option (which is expected) of tipping (gradutitiy) at end of the meal

Re: Reception hall charges

that's why I don't understand why some people are being charged both

service charge= gartuity

girls I think you need to talk to some one higher up at the hall

that doesn't seem right to me

At Westbury Manor I am paying 18% service charge then tax. The bridal attendant and Matre'D (spelling?) are separate tips.
