Well we had the chat with our parents tonight about the budget and the guest list...basically as far as budget goes they pretty much said they are paying for the hall. Not that we have total free reign on the price like oheka castle but above average price is ok. Guest list is around 250-265...so here's where I need a little help.
I'm looking for a big open room, no low ceilings, no giant pillars in the middle of the room, no 'L' shaped rooms. I would prefer brighter rooms than darker but I really can work with both. I would love a unique, somewhat rustic european look but I know that may also be a bit too specific. We're looking at the fall so lots of windows looking out foliage would be awesome but that could also be taken care of during pictures offsite if necessary.
Food is VERY important, I don't just want run of the mill filet mignon, chicken and tilapia. In fact I would love to have a continuous cocktail hour as a dinner. I'm a bit of a foodie so I need to have quality yet different plus some staples for the not so venturous types.
If you ladies can throw some ideas my way so we aren't just driving aimlessly around long island looking at places that would be awesome! Thank you all so much.

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
The Inn at New Hyde Park is beautiful with a big open space and very high ceilings. Many people said that they have never been to a wedding with such space, that no on was cramped. The grounds are beautiful as well! The food and services are excellent as well. You can even go for a free food tasting before you book. You should definitely check it out! Good luck!

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
The only reason why I never went with one of the wineries is the whole site fee thing. I'm grateful enough my parents are willing to pay for my dinners yet I don't think a 10,000 site fee on top of it is feasible. Not to mention isn't renting everything a pain in the ***?

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
Did you look at Flowerfield up in St. James. It is up on an estate -- not your typical wedding hall..The food is amazing as well
They can hold up to 300 ppl

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
You might want to check out the North Ritz Club too....sounds like the ballroom is almost exactly what you're looking for and they max out at I think 350. We have about 265 on our guest list too.

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
We are booked at the Royalton mansion in Roslyn Heights. the room is phenominal... there are windows and fireplaces in the room. The cocktail hour room is filled with windows. The ballroom also has windows. They also have outside grounds.
The food is TOTALLY customizable. Really nothing is considered an upgrade... the ONLY item I know of that's an upgrade is sushi. The rest is all included.. and they go above and beyond to give you everything you want. so far the planning process with them has been terrific. I even had the chance to go to a wedding there and the food was phenominal!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
Check out Carlyle on the Green. The room is beautiful and it def sounds like it fits your needs.
I suggest Majestic Gardens.. its where I wanted, but it was a little more then we could afford/pp.

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
Look at Raphael Vineyards. They're GORGEOUS, sort of rustic European looking like you described, tall wooden ceilings. If they weren't out of my price range and too far from where I live, I would definitely be having my wedding there. The vineyards should be beautiful in the fall too.

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
From what you described you should take a look at Carlyle on the Green. It's a wide open room and very birght with windows in just about every direction looking out at the golf course and club.
The Carltun is also very bright, but not as many windows/natural light. I've heard mixed reviews about the food, but i've never been there for a wedding so I can't say.
I got married at the Royalton and loved it. Also a very bright room, not as many windows as Carlyle but there is NO MENU at the Royalton, they will make whatever you want. It's 100% customized. Cocktail hour is sort of continuous with Dinner. When CH is over, the guests are brought into the dinning room where salad is already out and ready to go. Not sure if that is waht you mean. They try to do the courses early so that there is more time at the end for uninterupted dancing.
I would check out all three.
