Well we had the chat with our parents tonight about the budget and the guest list...basically as far as budget goes they pretty much said they are paying for the hall. Not that we have total free reign on the price like oheka castle but above average price is ok. Guest list is around 250-265...so here's where I need a little help.
I'm looking for a big open room, no low ceilings, no giant pillars in the middle of the room, no 'L' shaped rooms. I would prefer brighter rooms than darker but I really can work with both. I would love a unique, somewhat rustic european look but I know that may also be a bit too specific. We're looking at the fall so lots of windows looking out foliage would be awesome but that could also be taken care of during pictures offsite if necessary.
Food is VERY important, I don't just want run of the mill filet mignon, chicken and tilapia. In fact I would love to have a continuous cocktail hour as a dinner. I'm a bit of a foodie so I need to have quality yet different plus some staples for the not so venturous types.
If you ladies can throw some ideas my way so we aren't just driving aimlessly around long island looking at places that would be awesome! Thank you all so much.

I think you'd love the venetian yahtclub in babylon. Pics below. www.venetianyahtclub.com
or check out this link: http://www.longislandcateringhalls.com/
I found that to be extremely helpful in sorting through all the reception halls long island has to offer.

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
another vote for the Inn.. the ballroom is amazing and very spacious!! :)
Another vote for Carlyle on the Green! I'm having around the same amount of people as you stated and absolutely fell in love with the ballroom as soon as I walked in. It's all wood floors, windows all around and no poles anywhere in the room!! Plus there is only 1 wedding at a time! FM me if you want any more info!

We are booked at the Royalton mansion in Roslyn Heights. the room is phenominal... there are windows and fireplaces in the room. The cocktail hour room is filled with windows. The ballroom also has windows. They also have outside grounds.
The food is TOTALLY customizable. Really nothing is considered an upgrade... the ONLY item I know of that's an upgrade is sushi. The rest is all included.. and they go above and beyond to give you everything you want. so far the planning process with them has been terrific. I even had the chance to go to a wedding there and the food was phenominal!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How are the prices at the Royalton??

You might want to check out the North Ritz Club too....sounds like the ballroom is almost exactly what you're looking for and they max out at I think 350. We have about 265 on our guest list too.
those pics dont even do it justice...the north ritz is amazing and the food is out of this world...the outdoor areas is sick too
also check out the royalton...amazing wedding there in august... it was really nice.

Re: Reception Hall Guidance
Jericho Terrace has two VERY spacious open rooms... I'm in the Dome Room, which has a huge dome on top with sunlight shining through. I love it!

If you are looking outside of LI also, you should look at some of the Abigail Kirsch venues as well. They are known for their unbelievable and non-traditional food, and most of her venues can hold the number you mentioned.

I recently went to a wedding at the Inn and NHP and it really was gorgeous, spacious and the food was excellent - all of it! The area in the back is really pretty too.

Def check out the Royalton my first choice but it wasn't in our price range.
The Woodland is great its on 122 acres of land my first choice now I love it there.
Raphel's another great choice its very rustic looking.
