Reception Hall Help

Reception Hall Help

Hi everyone,

I'm new to LI wedding. I'm currently in the process along with my FH searching for reception halls. I have visited a few and has narrowed it down. If anyone ever had their wedding at these location or been to a wedding there I would appreciate any reviews.

Leonards of Great Neck
Chateau La Mer
Majestic Gardens
Surf Club New Rochelle

I like Leonards because the price is reasonable.
CLM I like the factor that we get a yatch, the food there was okay during the tasting, wasn't a fan of it.
MG love the place and the BM was great with working out prices, it just a distance because we're coming from the Bronx.
The Surf Club is ten mins from my home, my guest and family's home but not sure of the food and they don't offer tasting. Any help?

Thanks Ladies

you can do a search on here for reviews. towards the top and slightly to the right it says 'search' and you can search for these halls in the Brides Review section.

Goodluck!!

I went to a wedding at CLM recently and did not like it at all. Found the food very mediocre and the liquor was bait and switch.. not top shelf.

Did you look at the crescent beach club .. that's supposed to be nice.

Leonard's is not my style. Too much glitz .

If you are coming from the Bronx did you look into Marina Del Rey? It used to be great.

Haven't been to most, but Majestic Gardens is right near where I grew up, I've been to a few events there although not a wedding--I remember it being pretty nice.

JMO, but I did not care for CLM at all. When we visited in April, the BM was making excuses for all of the negative things about the place...he kept saying 'Oh, that will be fixed in a few months...that will be changed soon. That will look different in the summertime.' We were totally turned off by that. Plus, there were scented candles EVERYWHERE. A reception hall should not have scented candles unless they are trying to hide a stale smell.
I live close to Leonards, but have never stepped foot inside of it. I heard decent reviews about it...at least as far as the food.

I went to a wedding at majestic gardens. The food was terrible (not even fresh Mozzeralla with the Mozz & Tomato Salad). My FH brought his own bottle that they drank in the bridal suite, I guess the bar must have been limited. and from what i heard they paid, I think you could of had it a Fox Hollow which would have been a big step up.

Crescent beach club will probaly be out of your price range if these are the places you are interested in.

Because you live in the Bronx, I would also suggest the swan club or westbury manor or fox hollow even.

I would check out Floral Terrace. It's about a mile from the Cross Island. I'll be honest with you...the outside appearance is not as great as most places...and the lobby is okay...but the reception hall is large and really beautiful inside. You are the only bride that day and the prices are decent. I went to a wedding there two years ago and the food is a-mazing! I had such a great time, too!

They will definitely work with you. FM me if you want more info. I can give you the quote they gave me!

If you live in the Bronx, and you're considering Surf Club, then what about Marina Del Rey, Villa Barone, and the place on Glen Island (I want to say Glen Island Harbour Club).

I'm having my wedding at Leonards, so I'm biased towards it, but you might also want to look at Douglaston Manor which is really close to the Whitestone Bridge.

I'm from Queens, but we have family coming from the Bronx and we are doing the Palm House at BBG. FI's coworker got married at CLM, and I was not a fan at all. I thought the food was horrible, and I HATED the fact that when it was time for the salad they came around with a big silver bowl and threw it on our plate. The wedding was two years ago and I still remember this. The big room also over looked a parking lot. Just things I noticed.
Check out the Floral Park Terrace, Jericho Terrace ( both close to the city border) Marina Del Ray is beautiful. If you want from your list..I'd go with Surf Club. I haven't really heard bad reviews about it. HTH

Oh, just remembered...if you're having a fairly small wedding (up to 180 people), then you should definitely look into Caffe on the Green in Bayside, Queens...it's right off the Whitestone Bridge, good food, great views, beautiful grounds.

Did you look at Fountain Head in New Rochelle - We were going to book there but then decided to see what was out on LI and got a good deal at Fox Hollow.

Re: Reception Hall Help

are there specific elements you are looking for, or a price range? I have quotes from a lot of halls on the 2010 board, and can give reviews on some of them from weddings I went to.
