Hello to all! I'm a newbie on this site! I was engaged on New Year's eve and so the reception hall hunt begins. I have looked at:
1-Russo's on the Bay 2 - Jericho Terrace 3 -WestMount Country Club (NJ) 4- Leonards 5 -Chateau LaMer
(in order of my preference)
I am SO confused! Some places were amazing but the prices a bit too much (we are paying for the wedding ourselves). Others, the prices were great but no real WOW factor. Has anyone been able to negotiate better prices than they originally received with Russo's or Jericho ?
Any suggestions on OTHER places?

Re: RECEPTION HALL MADNESS!
My company does a lot of events with Russo's and I think they're pretty strict with their pricing.
I had my wedding at Jericho Terrace and I was able to negotiate price and get some extras thrown in (they threw in a martini bar and a bunch of food at my cocktail hour and I didn't even know about it until after the wedding)
My wedding was in an off month so I got a pertty good deal...FM for the info if you'd like

Hi - I can't help too much with those places as I didn't look at any of them, but I did want to say congrats! Have you looked at the Fox Hollow?? I am biased.

Try an off month or a sunday or friday night. You usually have more luck negotiating for that.

Re: RECEPTION HALL MADNESS!
westmount is nice -that was originally where fh and i wanted to get married (before we were engaged) b/c FH has worked there with his DJ company so many times - its one of his favorite places in Jersey....pleasantdale chateau is also nice but its even more money than westmount....
we decided to get married in Long Island b/c my FH has worked at every RH in NJ and has probably been to almost 1000 weddings we didnt want our wedding to feel like 'work' so we decided Long Island had places where he never worked before...... the downside is that we could have gotten deals at other places b/c FH knows a lot of people in NJ (at the RH's, photo, video, florists, invitations, etc.) BUT we wanted to do all NEW for our wedding, but anyway im going off on a tanget now
at JT we negotiated a little with the night of our wedding - friday and b/c of the season.....go back and ask them what else they will throw in for you....we got quite a few add ons!
ETA: FH's sister got married at JT and her reception was really nice - so that influenced our decision as well

Depending on how many guest you are inviting you can get the WOW factor you are looking for at DeSeversky Center in Old Westbury. Their prices are the same as Russo's, but space is limited. One wedding at a time....
you guys have been so helpful! I LOVE this site! i've been so worried and stressed about picking a date and place ASAP since it seems like a lot of places are already getting full for April/May 2009 which is what I'm looking for. I wil be looking into all the places you have all mentioned! thanks! keep ur fingers crossed for me!

Re: RECEPTION HALL MADNESS!
I love Jericho Terrace and the price we're getting is not bad at all! If you're flexible with your date, you can really decrease your spending.
Leonards gave us a cheaper price than JT but you get SO much more for your money at JT. Tons of food! You can prob. get them to throw in some extras like chair covers, enhancements, etc.
Fox Hollow is really nice and very reasonable. It really depends what is most important to you when booking a hall. Chateau Briand was BEAUTIFUL and cost effective.
If you need any price quotes for 2010, I have for: Westbury Manor, Sandcastle, Chateau Briand, Chateau Le Mer, Holiday Inn plainview, manor east, ariana falls, jt, swan club, & crest hollow cc. just let me know what u need
GOOD LUCK!!!

Russo's is definitely the top one on your list followed by Chateau LaMer. We went to a food tasting at CLM and the food there is fabulous too. The reason we went for Russo's was the location and the look of the hall. Russo's is beautiful, plus the price was right. Been to 2 weddings at Jericho Terrace and IMO the food was just so so, nothing special at all. In fact one of the weddings at JT we all arrived early including the brides mom and grandmother and they made us all wait outside, no welcome or come in have a drink or champagne, coffee or anything. Then the food was just ok. I wouldn't go back there or have a party there.JMO

I am a little biased. I love Russos. I am not sure what price quote they gave you but I have been to weddings there and they do the best job. You know you are getting your money worth with food and service... Any question fm me....
Good luck and congrats.
Let the games begin..., lol!!!!!

Re: RECEPTION HALL MADNESS!
Well I emailed my salesperson at Russo's and i was told to come in bcuz they cant negotiate via email or phone. later that night i got a follow-up call from there and when i mentioned JT and Leonards had given me better prices they asked me to come in with my notes and we could go over and see what can be done. i really hope i can bring them down enough! lol it will be hard to negotiate since i cannot have an off-season month wedding (Jan and Feb at Russo's). My father has Parkinsohn's and lives in the Caribbean because the cold weather makes him feel worse. So wish me luck folks! I'm not really good at negotiating but I will have to do my best this weekend!

Check out Chateau Briand. My brother was married there and it was one of the best weddings I've ever been too. (Besides my own )

Re: RECEPTION HALL MADNESS!
Congrats on your enagement!
My FH and I booked Jericho Terrace. They really gave us so much and came in below our budget. Now we're getting married on 12/27/08 so the price was more flexible...but they seemed willing to work with whatever I wanted.
Have you considered looking at Fox Hollow or Woodbury Country Club. We looked at those at well and had we decided on a Spring wedding we thought those places would've been perfect.
Good luck!

Re: RECEPTION HALL MADNESS!
I have been to a few events at leonards and I found the food to be horrific. The place is dated and needs a face lift. Their cocktail hour is cheap.
OTHER READERS If you had your event at leonards please do not attack me. It's my opinion.
