Reception Hall UPDATE

Reception Hall UPDATE

Ok girls, here’s the update.

I spoke with the reception hall that screwed us around. They said they are very sorry for the “unfortunate” mistake on their part. They explained to me that apparently it wasn’t only the horse race that was involved on our date……..a company books with this venue EVERY year on our weekend, and for some reason this year, it was not put in the calendar. So when we booked, it was open (so we thought). So to make a long story short, they already had someone booked on our date when we booked, but didn’t tell us until 2 days ago.

So we are royally p’d off right now. We called around to many places that we found AND that you wonderful girls found for us. There were a select FEW that could accommodate us. The one place that we are leaning towards is charging us 2007 rates (they ALL are). PLUS, they are higher for the alcohol and food prices. BUT, we don’t really have a choice in the matter…….we have to book with them. With only 4 months left until our wedding, we can’t be wasting time. The venue that cancelled on us told me that they want to do what ever they can to make this situation “Right” with us.

Sooooooooo, here is where you girls come in.

My FH and I have yet to book a baker for our cake. We were thinking of making them do our cake (they have an in-house caterer) PLUS pay for the cake cutting fee that the new location may charge us, which is normally around $1.50 per person. But we can’t think of anything else that we should get them to do……….I’m pretty sure the stress has been blocking our thoughts!!!!

Any ideas?? Suggestions???? Anything would help us right now. We feel they totally screwed us around and now we have to pay for it in the end!!!! LUCKILY we have not purchased our invites………Or should I say THEY are lucky!!!!

Thanks in Advance girls!!!

Re: Reception Hall UPDATE

I think you should ask they to pay the difference from what you would be paying with them to the new place!

The cake idea sounds like a good 'last resort'...

I would start HIGH and ask for the differece in prices between the two venues..

We were going to pay $30000 with you now we have to pay $40000 with the new place, is there anything you can do to help us with this new financial burden?

And im sure you can go back and forth and worst case scenario ask for the cake

I agree..think BIGGER because they owe you huge for this. Yous shouldn't be responsible for their mistake.

I agree with that. I would def. have them pay the difference. My FH would be LIVID (as would I) but he always gets what he wants when he feels that he has been screwed. Want me to have him call 'as' you?!?!? LOL.

I agree- they should pay the difference....you can probably take them to court if they don't....

Make them pay the difference. DO NOT trust them with anything else that they could mess up again. Your cake is very important, don't leave it in their hands.

I am so glad that you were able to find a new place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant remeber if you posted about what your contract said about cancellation. Did you have a contract? If you did and it says nothing about their right to cancel then you have a whole host of legal options that you may or may not wish to pursue.

I agree! Sorry you have to go through this hun

Re: Reception Hall UPDATE

i would absolutely ask for the difference in price. it seems to me that they would almost expect that that's what you'd be asking for. after all, you budgeted for a wedding, and after you found your hall and knew how much you'd be spending, you probably booked other vendors once you knew how much of a budget you had left. perhaps you would have gone with a cheaper florist or band or photographer if you knew you'd be working with thousands less. i'd threaten to call the BBB or Shame on You (or sue- depending on what your contract states---though most contracts are overly protective of the drafting party, which is them).
this is also not even taking into consideration all the stress you had to undergo after being notified a mere 4 months before your wedding that YOUR RECEPTION HALL wasn't even available anymore!!!! it's not like they were telling you a menu option had changed. they were fully cancelling the place where you've been planning your wedding for months!!!!

I agree with the other girls, I would not want them to have anything to do with the cake. I would make a list of the diffrence in price that you have to pay now and demand they pay it and if they do not take them to court.

Hey date twin! I'm glad things are working into place
I would ask them for as much as you could push them. They really F'd you up!! As if it isn't enough stress to plan a wedding, its more to plan a new one in 4 months to go!
Good luck!

Re: Reception Hall UPDATE

I would do the same, make them pay for the difference in price, if they really give you the run around, then begin to haggle. Explain that you are being charged THIS YEARS prices due to their mistake, that the whole reason you booked early was the price.
They are obviously willing to fix the issue but its not helping you at this point. FIX it to your liking NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!!
