Reception Hall Visits! Finally!

Reception Hall Visits! Finally!

Hi all! I got engaged in August 2004. Since I don't live in NY anymore it has made planning this wedding a little more difficult, but I've been doing my research so that when I finally started my visits I could narrow down the field in fewer visits.

Thanks to everyone who posts on this site, you have no idea how much help you really are!

So my first official wedding related visits are scheduled for this Saturday and we're tackling reception halls. Here's my Saturday agenda... no particular order.

1. Swan Club
2. Westbury Manor
3. Watermill Caterers
4. Majestic Gardens
5. East Wind Caterers

I'm so excited...

If anyone wants to share their thoughts or experiences at any of the halls I'd appreciate it. I'm also still accepting suggestions on locations...

watermill-beautiful outside
eastwind-I like if you get the estate, not country gardens

I am still looking...I think I like Vineyard Caterers. I can't decide

HI,

Well I am biased towards the Swan Club since I am having my reception there...its beautiful and its reasonable.

Westbury Manor was nice too unfortunetely we were very turned off by the BM because he wanted us to book that day...it was only the second place we had visited

The Watermill is supposed to be excellent..my best friend is getting married there is July..we didn't look there 1. because she is getting married there are 2. its too far from us!

Good LUck...let us know what you think!

Re: Reception Hall Visits! Finally!

congrats & good luck with your search!!

Westbury Manor is beautiful especially if you can have your CH outside...The only thing I didn't care for was the ballroom...I felt it was very dark...My cousin had his wedding there in 2000 & when I look back at the pictures, they are dark...But great food & ambience.

Watermill, this was one of our choices...We had the upstairs ballroom picked out...Very nice but when I went back the second time to see it again, I didn't get the same feeling...Our potential BM was nice, but we got turned off by him...He just wanted to push a sale...I hear the food is GREAT....Then again, it was too far out for us...

Good luck with your search!

Watermill is seconds away from me. It seemed to busy for me when we visited. In my opinion. Its beautiful only if you have more than 120 people going. because we are such a small party they showed us the little ballroom they had. the dance floor was so small only 3 couples could dance at a time. well for me it was small....remember the room they showed us.but the other rooms are great.

As for Majestic Gardens...Its my favorite place so far. I love it. The different ways they accomodate you for ceromony or for the cocktail. 'The Secret Garden' is where i want to have my ceromony. When you go you will see why.

Have fun

We fell in LOVE with Westbury Manor as soon as we walked in...love the look and the feel of it (very warm and cozy), I've heard from lots of people that the food is great...the gardens outside are beautiful...we booked it right away...it was our second place that we looked at...
we had gone to see East Wind that morning...which we liked as well but we felt that we were getting everything WE wanted at WM...at East Wind I felt that everything we wanted had 'an extra' charge that went with it...but I would still consider them...I prefer the inn section over the gardens...very classy

I suggest going to the Westbury Manor last. It is beautiful, but they do pressure you to book on the spot. It doesnt' help that they seem to fill up the spots very quickly!!! It was only the 4th place we visited, but I fell in love.

A friend is getting married at the Swan Club- I've never been there, but the pics I've seen have been really nice.

If you can, explain to the BM before you visit that you are from out of town. Some don't like to give tastings on the first visit, but they will accomodate you so that you won't have to make the long trip back.

Good luck and have fun!!

I would check out Carlyle on the Green. One of my girlfriends had her reception there two years ago and it was GORGEOUS- she had almost 250 people, so it was a huge room and very pretty.
Good Luck!

Congratulations and welcome!

Westbury Manor was our second choice. I went to a wedding there last year and really liked it. The Swan Club is beautiful and the BM Michael was really nice. Good prices. Unfortunately for us, we are having a winter wedding. The Watermill is also nice and has good food. I went to a wedding there 2 years ago and loved it.

I am biased, but I think you should also look at Fox Hollow. It is owned by the Scotto Brothers, who also own Westbury Manor and the Watermill.

Thanks everyone.. I checked out a few more halls that have been recommended and so I've added 2 more halls.

Here's my list...
1. East Wind Caterers
2. Swan Club
3. Westbury Manor
4. Floral Terrace
5. Giorgio's @ Fox Hollow
6. Watermill Caterers
7. Majestic Gardens

It's going to be a really busy day! But my FH will be coming with me, so at least it'll be fun.

You should also try Fox Hollow...its on the same street as Westbury Manor (its about 20 minutes down the road Woodbury CC, Crest Hollow and North Ritz club are also right in the same area). Westbury Manor is also great...I've been to two weddings there in the past 6 months and had a blast. I've never been to the other halls on your list but I've heard great things about all of them! Have fun!!!!!
ETA: Sorry I just looked at the list again...I went to a wedding at East Wind last year. It was really nice!

Re: Reception Hall Visits! Finally!

Having wedding at the East Wind Estate....which obviously I totally love!

live near Watermill, have been to weddings at watermill, and have worked at watermill!
it is a beautiful hall and the food really is great. it is sooo clean in the kitchen too...I would have had my wedding there and would have been treated really well too since i worked there but i feel in love with east wind and because ive been to my cousins wedding there too

looked at majestic gardens, i love the room and the outside... what i didnt like was that it was on a main road. and the outside (IN THE FRONT) didnt impress me...
I heard the food is fabulous!!!!!!!!

Went to westbury manor to look too... to be honest i didnt like it but thats because it just wasnt my style....i have heard great things about it! The BM was helpful and friendly. They brought us drinks and some food to taste.... great people.... but just not my look!

FORGOT< I also went to giorgios! I had my mind set that i was going to have reception there for way before i was ever engaged! Family friends know George and George Jr. but to be honest, George JR. kind of screwed me.. It has such an AMAZING view and the food is terrific!
I loved giorgios but I KNEW EAST WIND WAS THE PLACE RIGHT AWAY!!!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK, You have some search!!!!!!HAVE FUN!!!!!

Re: Reception Hall Visits! Finally!

hello!!!

If you are going to go as far out as Georgios, Majestic Gardens and East Wind, I would definately try to hit Hamlet Willow Creek in there... it is brand new and beautiful, in Mt. Sinai...

the three halls we checked out were Georgios, east wind and hamlet willow creek... our main choice came down btwn Georgios and hamlet willow creek... we ended up choosing our hall because the price was a lot better than Georgios...

hope this helps!
