Reception Help??

Reception Help??

Ok here's what I'm looking for....a place that has two completely separate rooms...one for CH and one for reception. I don't want you to be able to see inside the reception room before its time...as our wedding theme is a big surprise!

I'm also looking for a cocktail reception...no sit down dinner. Apps passed all night, drinks, some stations, ect.

Non traditional places are Ok with me.

Any ideas you have to get this ball rolling would be greatly appreciated!

Our theme is Vegas. He desparately wants to get married by Elvis in Vegas and I want my whole family there so this is our compromise!

We're having blackjack tables, roulette, craps, showgirls, of course Elvis, ect. All things Vegas. It'll be more like a party then a wedding!

I know the KOC in Oceanside offered a buffet dinner, that seems what you are looking for. And it was really inexpensive.

I don't know if you're looking for a knights of columbus, but I went there to that location in Oceanside. It was very nice place and the menu was good too. Nice big room. But there was no seperate Cocktail Hour room.

Maybe you can call a few halls to see if they offer buffet over sit downs.

Try the Miller Place Inn. They have the separate rooms, and their dance floor is set toward the front, so there is a lot of space in the back, near the bar, to set up gaming tables. It's where they would put the buffet, if you were having one. Basically, you're looking at swapping food tables for game tables.

If you are having a cocktail reception you don't really need a separate cocktail hour room, you could just start the whole thing off in the main room....just a suggestion.

BTW, its a great idea and I am sure its going to be A LOT of fun!!!!

I don't know what area you are looking or how many people you are having...but East wind COuntry Gardens has to seperate buildings. The CH is on one side of the parking area and the RH is on the other. We had 125 and there was plenty of room. GL in your search. Sounds like a lot of fun!!!

Thanks!! I'm dead set on the separate room thing though... I don't want people to see what they are in for when they first arrive.

I know that my hall, Majestic Gardens, has a separate cocktail room and outside area, and they actually set up a divider so your guests can't see your reception room until it's time to go into it. I thought that was pretty cool when I saw pictures. They also offer a cocktail reception and a bunch of other menus to choose from.

You may change your mind about not having entrees!

I was ready to knock the KOC idea....but maybe I'll take a look! Might be worth it and then the extra cash can go towards having it decorated exactly how I want!

most RH's offer 'cocktail style' reception menus. definitely ask when you go for appointments. some RH's charge additional fees pp to have it this way, others kept the prices the same... we are having this and for us unfortunately it's more $$pp but in my opinion, totally worth it!!! i don't like the 'stand up' 'sit down' nonsense at weddings...

I would try the Meadow Club. s/w Joe c and see if he can work with you. We did the ceremony there and CH was in a separate room then the reception. It is in Port Jeff Stat. Reasonably priced too.

I bet if you ask most halls will let you do the cocktail hour style throughout the entire repcetion.

Re: Reception Help??

my suggestion is to NOT go with a typical wedding RH bc many places will charge you even more money to do a cocktail reception.

ALso be very careful with places that offer JUST cocktail hour reception and are not a typical rh, ive been to a wedding like this. THe waitstaff BARELY came out with the apps like they were supposed to, i only 2x they come out and honestly the plate was so small by the time they got to 5 ppl it was gone. We all left the wedding starving. So make sure you are very clear with them about what you want.

Somebody suggested the foundry, I 100% agree. Also check out the Metropolitan building in LIC, queens NOT the one in LI its 2 different places in case you look it up. It is sooo different, you can do whatever you want with the space. And you can hire a catering service yourself
