Re: Reception Question
Hi, Congrats and welcome! You can book appointments to see the reception halls. My FH and I only looked at one place, they gave us a tour of the hall and told us prices and went over they type of food they have. This link should help you get an idea of the prices of the places you were asking about. Reception guide Hope this helps you out!

Re: Reception Question
FH and I only looked at Chateau La Mer. Their prices were pretty reasonable and I liked the fact that they were on the water. You can call up any place to make an appointment. Some places have no problems giving quotes over the phone or e-mail, but many require you to pay them a visit. When you have your appointment, they will pretty much give you a tour, then go over their menu and different services.

Re: Reception Question
We called places and made sure the date was available before we went to see the hall...believe it or not some places were booked. One day we drove around and stopped at a few places. Some places will give you prices or at least a ballpark over the phone and some places insist you see the place. Where do you live? Is there a particular part of LI you want? We can make some suggestions if you are interested.

Not sure about where to get Locations Magazine, but there is also one called New York Sites and Services, which I found to be very helpful, and I got it at Barnes and Noble. Never been to Windows on the Lake, but a friend of mine was just there recently and she said it was nice. We have a lot of our work dinners at Majestic Gardens, and it is very nice. Also a friend of mine got married there and it was beautiful. Hope that helps!

The service there was really good not to mention the food. the scenery is really pretty- its good during the day & at night- at night theres lights around so its not too dark. i hope this helps somewhat

Re: Reception Question
I made a list of places based on friends and family reccomendations and this web-site. Then I tried to narrow it down based on what was important to me - i.e. we only wanted 1 wedding at a time. Then I called every one of the places on my list to get a price range based on the time of year we wanted to have it, and the night we wanted (we wanted Saturday night only) - we set a max price, so anything over that was ruled out. Then I visited the halls that were left. It definitely worth it because even the halls you don't like will give you a better idea of what you're looking for.
Good luck! It's a lot of work, but worth it!
Edited - I also made sure the halls could accomodate the number of guests I was having. That's another way to cut down the number of halls you visit!
