Reception Seating

Hi Ladies

I am trying to finalize my reception seating chart. I was just wondering if I am supposed to put my family on one side of the room and my fiances family on the other side? I have the tables pretty much figured out but i can't figure out if people normally mix the table locations up or if its usually split up. Any help is appreciated.

ive always seen it split so more people that know each other are closer together... not a necessity though.. sometimes the bride has more family than the groom or vise versa and giving the families 'sides of the room' doesnt make sense - its all up to you

Yeah, all the weddings I've been to they have the bride's family on one side and the groom's family on another. But I don't think it is a big deal, it's just easier for each of your families to mingle with one another if they are near eachother. I know for many weddings I've been to, I often get up and go sit next to my mom for a few minutes or something like that

There's no definite way. It's up to you and how you think people will blend. i think if you have opportunity to mix both families you should go for it.

I agree- it ends up being split because you keep people who know each other together but there's no rule. It also depends on your family size and dynamic. For my e-party my parents sat at different tables on different sides of the room since they are divorced. Also my fiancés family is huge compared to mine so he had a majority of the tables anyway. I couldn't have split it if I wanted to. Do what makes sense for your guests.
