Reception Site Contracts

Reception Site Contracts

Hi Ladies, I'm just about to book my reception site.
Do I sign the contract BEFORE I give them a small down payment or work things out after? Does that mean I should have them fax me the contract before I personally go there to finalize things? What did you do?

Some people have suggested not signing the contract until the tasting but I'm told by the Receptionsite that it won't be done til August. What is the usual protocal?

Also, Generally, what % are the installments and how many are there? and when is final payment usually due by?

YES - obviously I'm a little lost here. Thanks for your help!

Do you mean small as 'holding' or towards your bill? If it's towards the bill you will go over the contract with the specifics you want written in the contract. At that time it will indicate what you've left as a deposit. In terms of installments, it depends on the time frame from the time you book until the wedding. I booked 1 year before, left deposit of 1,000, 2 other payments of 1,000 every 3 months, 5,000 at menu selection (this month) and the balance the week before the wedding. Hope this helps

With my site (The Vineyard):

I worked things out BEFORE I signed anything.
I would wait till you are there to go over the contract but I guess it doesnt matter.
I havent had my tasting (Im not getting married till next May) but I know the food is amazing so Im not worried about it. I was told I can have my tasting at any time I wanted.
My hall wanted $3000 deposit in 6 months then they want the balance a month before the wedding... ouch thats one heck of a check!!!

I hope I helped you with my experience. GOOD LUCK!

YES LADIES, definitely helps!
I was going to give them a $1000 deposit to hold the date. I guess I could get a copy of the contract before so I don't have to go out there again (it's an hour from Manhattan and FH hates LI traffic).

My wedding would be in Septersha mea payments will be hefty...

I gave the deposit when I signed the contract. I havent had a tasting yet, but I've been to other Scotto owned catering halls and I know the food is great! The way the Watermill works, is I put $1000 down and then had to pay off half of the balance by 6 months after signing (which was Oct 2002). I pay the remainder of the balance the week of the wedding (Which is SOON!! Where'd all the time go?!).

Hope that helps! Lots of luck to ya!

Honestly, IMO, I wouldn't give them money to hold the date. Take your time looking at halls you're interested in. They don't book that fast that you can't go back to book it. If you feel better giving them something - - only leave $50. That sounds scammish to me. You have FM.

if you can't remember what to ask - then email Marcela1543 and she will send you a wonderful list she has compiled! I would send it, but it is on a different computer

i had a 1000 deposit when signing the contract.. i didnt have a tasting yet but they told me i would be able to anytime in the next month... perhaps you can ask for the the contract to be contingent on liking the food tasting

we tased the food the night we booked. they had tastings every tuesday for potential clients. We went over alot of what we want, but most of the final details were taken care of a few weeks before the wedding.

I think I had to leave 100 to hold the date- and it was fully refundable. When we had to leave the 1000 deposit, we only gave 900 because they already had 100.
