Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
I am trying to get my wedding booked. I am a 2005 bride and everybody keeps saying 'you have plenty of time' but I just want that one thing done. It seems like every time I visit a facility it becomes 'the one' and then all of a sudden I find something that I don't like whether it be the amount of food or the setting etc. I don't know if I am just being too picky, or if I just haven't found the right place. Whatever the case may be, I think I am going to go crazy!
Just had to vent, since not many people are understanding me right about now! Thanks for 'listening'

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
That's exactly how I felt. And then my grandfather asked if he could host the wedding at his home. I almost felt obligated to have it there. In a way it took the pressure off of me having to look any further, but now I'm starting to second guess my decision... like all the things that are already included with a catering hall... Before I go off on a tangent, let me get back to your original inquiry: I'd just recommend taking your time. You have some time to play with before you really need to 'book' anything right now. Try to make pro & con lists of the places you've seen so far & try to start the elimination process. If it helps, my cousin got married at the Woodbury Country Club & it was wonderful. I'm sure the other girls out there could also give you reviews of places too, that might help make this process a little easier on you. Good luck, and of course keep us posted if you come to any decisions...

What places have you looked at? Did you try the North Ritz Club? I am booked there and everyone who sees it loves it.

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
I visited the North Ritz Club and FELL IN LOVE. Unfortunately, our quote was a bit out of our price range. Not that it was SO bad, but we have a small guest list and the minimum guarentee we were given was 150, which we are figuring to be our count. But good luck with your wedding because NRC is Gorgeous!!! (to say the very least). We've looked at the following and have narrowed it down thus far to 2 places- Villa Lombardi's and John Anthony's.Villa
Woodbury CC
Fox Hollow
Swan Club
NRC
John Anthony's
Windows on the Lake
Beach Club Estate
We plan on visiting East Wind and Majestic Gardens
We have ruled out the following because others have been married here and we want to be 'different':
westbury manor
Jerich Terrace
Watermill
Geez . . . I feel like we've seen them all . . . Maybe we are way too picky!

I cannot recommend Majestic Gardens enough. I had a dream wedding there. Definitely check it out.

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
Keep looking and do kind of a pro and con list. Think about what is most important to you. I looked at least 15 places before I picked my place (NRC). I too found faults with every place. To me I wanted a place I loved inside (grounds arent as impt for a late Oct wedding), something that offered lots of good food, not overcrowded, some place where none of my other close friends got married.I finally narrowed it to John Anthony's North Ritz and Thatched Cottage (with North Ritz being the third choice, or so I thought at that time). Then I went back for a second visit. When I went back the second time, I had decided what was important to me and looked at my pro and con list and made my decision. I think I went in with a different angle the second time. North Ritz wound up being my winner. Also, the second time I went back to North Ritz, they totally threw stuff into my package...I guess they knew I was seriously considering them. (I also booked in 2001 when a lot of construction was still going on..I took a big chance the place would change into what it is now.)
Good Luck.

Have you looked at Crest Hollow. My brother just got married their and they did a good job. My mom calls North Ritz a mini-Crest Hollow.

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
We booked the watermill but looked at a lot of places.Try Timber point country club. We had a very nice experience there. The banquet mgr was so nice we almost picked it just for him!
Also, we liked Captain Bills in bayshore. The only thing wrong with this place is the name! The place is lovely.
You can also try to negotiate the minimum number of people. We are having a small wedding too and got the watermill down to 92 people.
Good luck!

I was in a wedding at the Watermill last weekend and it was beautiful. The food was good too!The outside is really nice for the cocktail hour.

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
I went to look at a few but my list of options were pretty limited since I wanted a place where I would be the only wedding going on. I fell in love with the North Ritz Club when I walked in and they were providing pretty much everything I was looking for in a hall. Good luck!

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
I am sorry you are having so much trouble. Your post made me laugh because I am having the same problem with dresses, I love all of them!Have you tried the Hamlet Golf & Country Club in Happauge? That was the second place that we looked at. We loved it, so we cancelled our other appointments and booked it that afternoon. I think you will know when you find 'the place.'
Good luck and keep us posted.

If I hear 'you have plenty of time' one more time.....!!!
(hehe) I know what you mean, I'm July 4th 2004 and planning from upstate NY. On memorial Day weekend this year, my FI and I looked at 12 places!! So, by the 4th this year we had it booked. John Anthony's was our final choice! Now we just have to concentrate on saving some $$$$!!!

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
I second the Milleridge Cottage! I looked at about 30 locations-some unique, some not so unique. I agree with the pros & cons method-but I think you should start off with must-haves. I knew I needed handicap accessiblity, ceremony on location and 1 wedding at a time. Figure out your list & go from there. Make sure the place you select moves you in some way, you're only going to do this once!PS don't forget to figure in the service charge & tax when getting prices. IMO it's the biggest scam on the planet!
Good Luck

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
Whatever you do, do NOT go to Chatau La Mer.More power outage problems then weddings on this board.
Saw them on the news twice, fox 5 problem solvers and the other trouble shooters (channel 9) with brides & grooms wanting their money back...
Also, when i went to look there, front doors were dirty & scratched, rug filthy and they showed me the cocktail hour while there was a wedding going on! He brought us in the room!
If that was my wedding and they showed it while my wedding was happening I would have been PISSED!!!!!!

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
My brother's reception was held at Chateau La Mer last weekend and everything was in perfect order. None of the problems mentioned by Jennbaby. They have done some renovations to the place since last year. Because I have been through the process last year and I heard some negative things on this board about Chateau La Mer, I was definitely checking everything out. I did not have a single complaint.

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
BriBri I have been to a lot of weddings and seen a few sites on my own and each time I would go somewhere I think it's great. So I stopped going anywhere until I made a list of things that were non-negotiable to me, that to me would make the perfect day. (Oh yeah, and that I could afford!!!) For me, it was a hall not on a highway or major road, a hall that offered smaller rooms, good food, Suffolk County). Well, that narrowed it down a lot, and now I will eventually make myself choose between those few (Smithtown Landing, the Villa Rosa b and b in Kings Park, West Sayville country club, Snapper Inn).

Re: Reception Sites AAAAHHHH!!!!!!
had my wedding at a place that is under new management for about 2 years now, it's Larkfield Manor in East northport. they newly renovatted the whole place and it's beautiful. the people there are greeat amd the food is out of this world. one of the best things is that it's totally affordable. Things that all other caterers that we looked at were charging for they included, I highly reccommend!!
