Reception Sites- Any Must Sees?

Reception Sites- Any Must Sees?

My fiance and I are in the process of booking Land's End for Nov. '01 wedding. It was the first place that we looked at and, although we looked at other places after that, we knew that it was the place we wanted for our wedding. It is within your price range, banquet hall is beautiful, it is right on the water with a large deck (you can have cocktail hour out there if weather permits).the menu is exceptional, and there is one wedding at a time.

But anyway, what are you looking for in a reception hall? And where did you want to have it? (Nassau, Suffolk, Queens)? Do you have a large number of people coming?

The catering halls I loved (some of which I could not afford, but may be in your price range) is Flowerfield (amazing), Lands End (my favorite), Milleridge, Chateau Briand, John Anthony's etc.

We've looked a lot too and I think the only 'must see' is Oheka - but it's very expensive (too much for us). If you like the New York City townhouse look and don't mind not having grounds, check out the Metropolitan in Glen Cove. It is very different from the other places we've seen.

That's one thing that really sold us on him and his wife - we were very comfortable with their personalities. My Fi was joking around and since he HATES having his picture taken, I figured that we'd get the best results if the photographer was someone he could laugh with.

The other thing I really liked was that his photos focused on the people, and did not rely on having dramatic Martha Stewart-type settings like some we saw - that's going to work best for our situation.

Chateau Briand - A Must See

Anne, I aggree with Lori...Chateau Briand was GORGEOUS...absolutely spectacular!!! However, the $110 pp was way above our budget.

I had actually looked at Deseversky as an option for my own wedding, but they only do sit down dinners for 125 people, and unfortunately we have more guests! I think that the grounds are amazing...I have not seen anything like it!! The drive up is amazing, and the inside is gorgeous. It is part of the New York Institute of Technology....their culinary arts school. I would definetely recommend it, and their price is in the range that you are looking at....its worth a try.

They will probably tell you the nature of the problem and whether or not it is resolved if you pay them a fee for the complete report. Before getting upset about the complaints you need to know how many they are, what time frame they cover and then put that in perspective with the number of clients they have. The more clients a company has, the more complaints you can realistically expect them to have.

For your price range, you might want to take a look at Land's End in Sayville. It's right on the water. I haven't gone to see it because I found something more affordable closer to home (John Anthony's in Babylon), but from the pictures I've seen, it looks spectacular.

Some nice places in the city...Boathouse Cental Park, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Tavern on the Green, Top of the Sixes, Windows on the World. I live in the city...there is a nyweddings.com but no one ever posts...I am not sure why.

We are having a big wedding and are still planning (it's June 30!) We booked the Floral Terrace on Long Island. Like I said, we looked at a lot of places and I'd be happy to tell you about any of them. Let me know how you are doing or if you have any questions.

The Nassau County Art Museaum has stunning grounds, they do tented receptions.
A few suggestions - FOCUS on what is important to you your FI, and your daughter.
Reception Sites - Pick up a complementary copy of 'Wedding Facilities and Services' at Fortunoffs and a complementary copy of 'Locations' at Sterns. Both books detail many of the LI venues listing room size, service style and type of food - I found these publications were a great starting point.

Anne, did you find a place yet? If so, which one?

Thanks for reading this post.

Hi Tara We chose the Watermill too - Sept 14,2001, whats your date?

To all the concerned LI Brides,

I've noticed that no men have responded to Margaret's message. I can't speak for all men, however as much as 'The Friends' deny it, the Bachelor party (At least the naked women part) winds up being more for the single friends in attendance than the Groom-To-Be.

We have heard a lot of good things about the Watermill too. When you ate there did you tell them that you were booked or just walk in? We are planning to have dinner there soon. We are looking at photographers and listening to music but haven't booked anything yet. We really like Sherwood Triart and I will be taking a look at Imagine tonight. How about you?
Fran

As I had mentioned before, you are the only other bride on this board that I know knows of Wright Studios but we are using them. My fiance's sister, brother and 2 friends used them for their respective weddings and the photos are great. Also, all the 'extras' are at no cost, i.e., B&W photos, B&W with colorization. Additionally, they customized the package to our taste and the price was great. We have Paul (the owner) shooting our wedding. He is very easy to get comfortable with and one of the first things that sold me on his integrity was how he didn't try to push their videography package on us (which I thought was a bit too expensive). He assured me that he could easily work in sync with any videographer. As a side note, it turns out our videographer has worked with him in the past at the same business so it's working out well.

Hi Tara
What room are you in at Watermill? We are upstairs in the Astor. We have narrowed down our photographer/video search to two Imagine Studios and Sherwood Triart. I am sending out quote requests to each of them today. We also considered Proline, but decided to go with a less traditional style.
How are you doing with music?
