Anniversary Dance?

Well, the DJ or MC should ask all married couples to step onto the dance floor. Then, he should start out by saying anyone married less than 5 hours should leave the dance floor. (Naturally, the newlyweds leave first!!) With each round, the time gets longer...less than 1 year, less than 5 years, 10 years, 15, 20, etc. Til there is one couple left standing. They get the flowers and finish out dancing to the song. I've only seen it done once, but I loved it and we think it's a great alternative to the garter toss. It's a great way to honor marriage and the lifelong commitment your guests have made to eachother.

Check with your DJ or band about this. They could probably explain it better.

Reception Songs

For introductions, we are using Gimme Some Lovin' (instrumental-Blues Brothers) for the family and bridal party, then the Blues Brothers Theme Song (instrumental).

For Cake Cutting, we're considering How Sweet It Is (James Taylor)

We have thought about the Odd Couple theme too because we are both big fans and when we first moved in together in October he would call me Felix a lot as we tried to get use to each other's habits. I also like the beat of A Change Would Do You Good by Sheryl Crow. The words...well, they don't play too much of it anyway
We are taking Continental Airlines.

Can you tell me a little more about the anniversary dance? I have never heard of that.

We are also doing the Anniversary Dance, Kenny Rogers-Through the Years. Then I thought the married couple-the wife will get the bouqqet, and then give the garter to the husband and have him put the garter on his wife. I thought that would be different. At least they will know each other.
I realize that they are opening the shop at 6:30 am for me, but my sisters wedding in CT 3 months ago we paid $50 each for hair and Makeup ! Am I crazy ?

I really like the beginning to Sweet Emotion too!! Eventhough at this point we're looking to songs from the Blues Brothers, that is an alternative just in case we change our minds.

Tossing the bouquet-A little different

I wasn't going to do the bouquet thing either, until my cousin (BM) mentioned a few times that she wants to catch mine. I decided to toss the bouquet from the steps of the church and to forget the garter thing. It can make for a great picture.

Diane,

This is by no means meant to offend you, this is just my opinion. We are staying away from the garter thing completely. We just don't agree with it, and I just don't want to put any guests in an awkward situation. They may know each other, but that doesn't mean they'd feel comfortable going through the process. Granted, some people are more open and playful, but some people may feel forced to go along for the sake of the newlyweds and the party.

Tossing/catching the bouquet-My Story

Again, someone feels the need to hide behind an anonymous message to vent their anger. Wow, why are you so bothered? It's OK really, you don't have to participate and there's certainly no need to be rude to us.

Like you, I wanted my arms covered too. My dress is from the Private Label collection under Private Label by G. Unfortunately, I have checked their website many times and haven't been able to find my dress there. So, don't get discouraged if you can't find what you're looking for on the net.

Tossing/catching the bouquet-My Story

When I was 15 I was truly clueless about the whole bouquet and garter thing. I caught the bouquet at my cousin's wedding and the man who caught the garter was a big, hairy mountain man who must have been about 40 or 45. I was so mortified when I found out that I would have to sit on a chair in the middle of the room and have this man put this garter up my leg with everyone yelling 'higher', egging him on. And if that wasn't horrible enough, they made me hold my hair up in a very sexy way and took tons of pics in which my face came out beet red and I look barely able to control myself from crying. I remember my little cousin was crying and she kept yelling lower as they were yelling higher. Granted most people are a lot more clued in to the whole process (you KNOW I never caught another bouquet again!!) but I am so glad to hear and see more and more that people are using an alternative custom in it's place. Of course we won't be doing it at our wedding either. I do respect if others choose it for their day but I am really glad to hear it being less the norm.

Why not do both?

I personally like the idea of both, since you get both the singles and the couples involved. However, in light of the horror stories I have heard here, I will speak with the MC before the reception to be sure that they don't make anyone feel uncomfortable.

We are using Paul Marino in Massapequa. He was the first photographer I met with. I went to see 2 others, but kept thinking about his work. Went back to meet with him one last time and his personality and the friendliness/supportiveness of his staff along with the packages he offered sealed the deal. I am really excited about working with him. He was also the house photographer for our hall and attends the church we are getting married at so he is more than familiar with all the places we will be that day. I think he will be worth every penny also!

love and friends,

Anniversary Dance?

Kel,
We thought this through, and figured out who the couple will be, and they will not have a problem with what we want to do. So no one will feel uncomfortable. I have a very humerous family. So Im not worried. Thanks for the concern

That's a wonderful idea!! Originally, I had been thinking of doing that very same thing, a donation to the American Cancer Society in honor of those we have known who have battled cancer.
