recieving line question....

recieving line question....

ok honestly I don't even want a recieving line and am going to do everything in my power to avoid having to do it.

I have 2 questions though.... how long do they usually last? And who keeps it moving... I mean if it's a kiss and a hug and a congrats and people keep on truckin I'm fine with that, but what about people who want to stand there and talk, who keeps it moving...

does this make sense?

I think the priest keeps it moving at least in my church I believe so.

OMG I want to cut mine out too!! My plan is for me and FH to hide somewhere in the back of the church once we walk out and then have all the guests ushered outside. I don't see the point in receiving lines, they last forever and what is the point of saying hi to people when you will say hi to them again two hours later?

They last about 15-30 minutes!

I talked to a planner once, and she said this is how to do it... just walk to the back as husband and wife and walk right out a side door. PLan it with your photog that he start shooting pics immediatly. If you want the whole walk out into rice/bubble, or whatever... go back in a front door still taking pics so people don't think you are rude and then do the grand exit.

That is my plan, I am just wondering if guests will feel offended. Like at CH will I hear 'we wanted to congratulate you at the church and you just took off'

We are doing one. It shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes depending on how many guests you have. People pretty much know, by the line standing behind them, to keep moving. Hug, kiss, congrats, thank you, and that's it.

That is what I plan on doing!!! Once everyone is outside, then make our exit. I told my parents this the other day and they almost had a heart attack. I am glad so many others agree with me! It is so pointless. I won't care if someone says something to me later on that night lol.

nope, not doing it! I think they are silly -- you have to go around and talk to everyone at the reception anyway.... why should you have to waste time to do it twice?

We are getting married at the RH so we are having people blow bubbles as we walk back down the aisle, going straight up to the bridal suite for a min alone, then taking pics and heading to the CH!

I mean as a guest I don't enjoy it... waiting on this huuuuuuuuuge line to say Congrats which I know I will only be doing about another 4 times that night. When really I just wanna get to CH and have a drink....

Yup that's it..... not doing it.........

Sorry Laura you'll have to congratulate me at another time of the night...

If you do the receiving line, do you still have to do table visits?

I hope it doesn't last long. FH's mom will probably kill us if we don't let everyone congratulate us after the ceremony.

Our ceremony is at the RH... so after the ceremony we're going to fly out, swoop up to the Bridal Suite for a minute, and then go to the CH and say hello to everyone

I am NOT doing one! I'll see everyone at the reception!

I guess the time it takes depends on how many people are at the church...how many people you will be meeting for the first time (hopefully not many)...who you haven't seen in a while...etc
