Recommend a Band / Recommend a DJ

Recommend a Band / Recommend a DJ

I realize there's a gapI in price between the two, and it may come down to budget alone.. but please recommend me the BEST in each category.

A little background on me and my guests:

I am over 30 and I DO NOT LIKE CAN'T STAND rap and most hip hop, if they play that Soulja Boy song at my wedding *I*'m leaving. :) I like rock, My FH likes country and rock. We both like some dance music I like Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and stuff on that order.

The majority of my guests are retirement age or in their 30s. I want people dancing, and moving, but I do not want cheesy giveways or songs we won't recognize.... I'm eclectic in my taste but I pretty much stopped buying songs/albums/cds after 2000 so I don't even know what people would like.

To give you an idea I have concert tickets to 4 shows this summer:

Billy Joel
Maroon 5 / Counting Crows
Huey Lewis
Journey / Cheap Trick

Our wedding song is You Are The One by Eliott Yamin.

So please give me suggestions on bands/DJs that would keep people dancing but not be too sweet 16ish.

I already have spoken to Body Rock and Body Heat Franklin Wayne Music and LI Paramount (Renegade) I DJ with a singer and a precussionist would be great too.

We got a band for the first 5 hours then are getting a DJ for the after party (since our friends like crazier music then my traditional family).

We went with The DreamTeam from NYCSwing for the band. They are AWESOME! and are super flexible - you can choose the songs they will/wont sing!

I am the same as you in my late 30's. Not looking for rap and pop. I want a lot of motown, rock, 70's. Here are a few bands we looked at that might be of interest to you:

We went with Soul Street -- they actually played at Billy Joel's wedding but they are not cheap

Soul Street

also check out Renegade -- they are more on the rock side although they play everything

the Mystic -- again more rock and fairly inexpensive

I highly recommend In Transit, which is a band based in Westchester. They are really talented musicians and have a lot of energy. I've seen them play at a lot of showcases, but opted for a DJ just because FH and I are big into music and want a lot of different things played (lots of indie underground bands) and the DJ is going to have to download a lot of music, so a band would have to relearn half of their set list. If I was going to book a band, though, I'd book them in a second.

I recommend FM Entertainment, i am using them and they play only what you want! You can give them a list of what you want played/ what not to play. If anyone makes requests then they will check w/ you first. Plus they were reasonably priced. HTH.

Thanks for your suggestions, I'm adding them to the list.

I've heard good things about FM entertainment, but when I went to check them out on the web their website was broken so I couldnt get a good feel for what they would be like, I'll have to call them.

RENEGADE!!. We are using the and they are awesome. It sound like you may be better off with a band but, I know that the difference in price is alot. Heart & Soul is very good also.

As for DJ's.....Dance Jock

I third FM Entertainment! They put on a great presentation, very professional and they will play songs through the decades and you can do a DO NOT play list as well.

My band plays a lot of 70s and rock/pop ... check them out:

Soul Revival

You can have a male and female singer if you want, and a horn section too, or just a trumpet, etc. They are very good and fun and all young, but not too young. I got along with the band leader instantly and he knows exactly what we are looking for. VERY affordable as well.

I like you are a big fan of rock music. I love billy joel and my wedding song was Slide my the Goo Goo Dolls. I strongly reccomend checking out my band The Prjoekt they were fantastic. I asked them to play glorfied bar music and thats what they did. All 229 of my guests were up dancing especially when they played Livimg on a Prayer by bon jovi.
