I did lots of research on vacuums. Do you want an upright or canister? Bag or bagless? Do you have pets?

Believe it not Kenmore came in top but it is only at sears so registering for it is hard.

I registered for an electrolux canister at Fortunoff. $499 I have 2 cats and FH is allergic

Remember if you get it at BBB it would be 20% off so you could register for something more expensive.

Consumer reports suggests:

Canister
Exectrolux Oxygen $400 (better for pets)
Hover windtunnel bagless $250

Upright
Mostly Kenmores
Riccar supralite $330?
Electrolux Oxygen 3 $400
Eureka Boss Smart Vac $150 (great for pets, very hard to move I bought for my sister, I don't recommend unless you have a small apt)

Hope this helps..FM if you have further questions.

The Hoover z is the best vacuum I've ever owned. Its a little heavy but so quiet and it has a super long hose and cord.

Hoover Windtunnel! We didn't get the dyson off our registry so we opted to purchase the less expensive Hoover Windtunnel - well let me tell you, it was SUCHHHH a good purchase! We have a dog and this vacuum picks up all her hair, cleans our rug perfectly, etc. It has a 'dirtfinder' light so it will tell you if the area is still dirty even when it looks clean (like on a rug, when there is dirt or whatever in the fibers, the light will stay red until it gets it all up!).

So yeah, I would highly recommend it. The prices are less than 1/2 of the dyson. I hear great things about the Dyson, but if you would rather spend less on a vacuum that will do a great job, def. look into the Windtunnel.

I got this and love it.. I registered for a Dyson too (with the intention of purchasing it with the completion discount) but opted to get this instead. A neighbor recommended it & I'm so happy with it!
