Recommendations for nice North Shore towns?

Recommendations for nice North Shore towns?

I've been doing a lot of 'just curious' posting lately - you can tell I have a lot on my mind!! So here's my curious question of the day

When we are ready for a new home (about 2-3 years from now) DH has mentioned that he would like to look on the North Shore/Nassau. I'm just bored at work and want to do some search on mlsli.com to see what's out there - does anyone have any specific towns they can recommend where the home prices aren't too ridiculously expensive? Our range is most likely going to be $325-425K so I'd like to know what's avaialble in that area for our budget. I've seen many nice houses in Plainview, but was looking for some other towns as well. Thanks so much!!

Maybe Sea Cliff or Glen Head

ETA: Nassau North Shore is one of the hardest areas to find something decent under 500k

I love Northport, we live there. I dont know about the price range though. But its possible depending on what you're looking for. Huntington Village area is nice too.

I love Northport and East Northport. If you're willing to go further east you could try Miller Place, Rocky Point, Mt. Sinai, Sea Cliff for the 325-425 range.

That's insane! And SIX skylights in that tiny little place? I wonder if that's code for 'big azz holes in the roof that we covered with Saran Wrap!'

I grew up on the North Shore. I actually went to North Shore HS. Forget about Glen Head and Sea Cliff. They will be out of your price range. You may be able to find something in Glen Cove. Other than that, I think you need $500,000 for a starter and it will be hard to say the least.

500!! And 425 was pushing it on that budget too! Geez! Well, thanks for the heads up - it's good to know now!

Centereach is possibility in that price range, you will get a nice house for that $$. They arent on the water but they are pretty close to Port Jefferson, which is beautiful.

Re: Recommendations for nice North Shore towns?

thanks - but Centereach is a little too far out for us right now. We're looking to stay in Nassau since I commute into the city for my job. Even though those home prices are really nice, esp the possible 2nd income - I just can't take a longer commute!

I grew up in Northport and love it. Currently we are in Huntington Station right on the border of Huntington. There have been some homes in the neighborhood in the high 300's, low 400's. There is one around the corner from me and they are asking 430k. We are very close to the train station and the morning commute is less then an hour.

The only towns I think you may find something (and it will be small w/little property and possibly on a busy road) would be Centerport, Greenlawn and Huntington

Northport is western suffolk county, we're about 20 mins from the Nassau border on the LIE :)

Northport and E. Northport are right next to each other - Northport has a beautiful village and harbor, lemmie see if I have any pics of the park/harbor...

I wouldnt necessarily say that but you might get more for your money if you went further east
