recommended vendors

For recommended vendors from your venue, do they pay to be recommended or are they recommended because they have done extensive work at that venue and a majority of people like them?

I'm just trying to get an idea about my last few vendors to book and I just want to make sure they are recommended because they are good, not because they paid to be on there?

Thanks! :)

2012er crashing. I believe the preferred vendors pay to be on the list. But since they are on the list they probably also are there frequently. However I would not be to concerned with whether a vendor has been to your venue before or not. A good vendor can do their job anywhere

I am just concerned because a recommended vendor for my venue doesnt have all positive reviews... 3.8 out of 5 stars and I just was curious about how they became recommended by my venue!! I trust my venue's opinion so I was thinking if they recommend them then they are probably a solid choice but just wanted to be sure!

They definitely have to pay (a pretty penny) to get on those lists! It has NOTHING to do with talent/ability!

Re: recommended vendors

I know that with my venue they ASK vendors to be on their list (now I'm not saying they don't pay to be on it, because I don't know). So I disagree about it not having to do with talent. Maybe it's true in some cases, but definitely not in all.

Hmm I'm just curious because I can't see a venue attaching their name to a poor quality vendor! I might just call my venue an ask their opinions of a specific vendor

I found all of my vendors based off reading a TON of reviews on this site as well as googling reviews. I don't believe in just using a vendor simply because they are recommended. In fact I didn't use most of Flowerfields vendors. READ AS MANY REVIEWS AS POSSIBLE then decide that way!

This is definitely true. I actually didn't use any of my venues recommended vendors, but I did look into them. The DJs just weren't my style and I had already fallen in love with Lighthouse for photography. Ask the girls on here who you are considering - they are very helpful!

This is interesting...I actually never thought about it. I'm not using their recommended vendors for photo/video because even though they do amazing work, they just weren't the style we were looking for. We were going to book our limos with Camelot before we knew they were their recommeneded vendor and we're only thinking of using their DJ because they're the system that is installed in the main room and we will get a good deal since they're right down the block and won't have to move any equipment. They also all seemed really nice and were willing to work with our budget, but I have NO idea if they're good or not lol. We're going to an expo there at the end of the month so I'll definitely have to find out!!

The only recommended vendor we were required to use was their florists. We have a choice of 6. Otherwise we aren't going with any of their recommended vendors because it seems they DEFINITELY pay to be on that list. I wasn't at all impressed with the quality of any of them.

Agreed. Although, one a vendor I met with actually told me he was a preferred vendor at a place, but took his name off of the list because there was a 'lofty fee' for being a preferred vendor. Because I only heard his side, I'm not sure how true it is. I'm sure a venue wouldn't endorse someone who truly had no talent because it would really lessen their credibility. At the same time, the wedding business is huge so I'm sure it's a mixture of talent and money.

I haven't either. For the most part, I knew what I wanted and the prefered vendors were far from it.
