So DH and I recently moved to Forest Hills and based on everyone's excellent rec's for 5 Burros, Cabana and Nick's Pizza, we love it!!
Any other recs for restaurants around here? We're awful about trying new places unless someone else recs it. Thanks!!!

Re: Recs on Forest Hills Restaurants?
Parkside, the best italian food. it's not really in forest hills, it is on 108th Street but it's in corona. it's literally a 5-10 minute drive depending on where you are.
Dee's is also good. they have brick oven pizza, i find it a lil satly but still yummy.
mardi gras is so good.
if you like sushi, SATO on queens blvd is also good. they have a nice atmosphere as well.

If you like spanish food there is a great place called, Tu Casa. Its a very small, more homey type place, dh and i always order from there though. Bu the food is amazing, best rice and beans and comes with the best green sauce ever. Plus the dominican empanadas are the best too.
OMG ESPO!!!! I LOVE TU CASA!!!! the pernille is amazing and they just expanded to the building next door and have tons more room. Also the sangria there is addictive! and we always take home a pint of the white garlic sauce and I use it as salad dressing!
Girls, this is nuts. How many of us go there?! I troop from Astoria to go to Tu Casa! We're having the Green Sauce at our wedding
I had no idea they expanded, dh and i usually order from there. I moved from astoria and im just a few blocks from Tu casa. We always ask for extra green sauce and save it and eat it with other things, its amazing.

Well my favorite is Cabana but you tried that one already. Mardi gras is also real good, its right by Cabana. Its creole type food, and their voodoo chicken is amazing!!!! its blackened chicken and blackened shrimp, with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The mashed potatoes are a little spicy. Nice atmosphere too
Austin steak house, its on lefferts blvd and austin street, RIGHT next to the kew gardens LIRR stop. Once it gets warm out its even better bc they have outside seating.
mardi gras has been closed for like a month - but they were really yummy!
we went to jade the other night just for drinks, but i loved the place itself. And if you like thai food Q Bistro on Ascan is really good!! Theres also a new place that opened up right next door to Cabana, I think its called Aged, but i havent been there yet. I think its a steak/grill type place.
have they omg i had no clue, im so upset. I was also on austin street last week lol how didnt i notice, guess i walked by and didnt pay attention wow lol

garcias has amazing drinks and pretty good food, the thai place on austin is pretty good too. If you have a car and can drive to the atlas mall you have to try simply fondue and shiro
I agree, simply fondue is AWESOME!!!! takes me just under 10 mins to get there. You just get on the jackie robinson from metropolitan and take it one exit and once you get off its just 3 blocks away

It's so funny to come across this thread! I live across the street of Tu Casa, on Lefferts! My fiance and I go there at least once a week and he's always saying how he LOVES the green sauce and now I know I should ask for some to take home!!! I ALWAYS order the Chicken or Beef Stew---it's AMAZING!! And yep, they just expanded...its pretty big now!
As far as other restuarants... Austins Ale House on Austin St in Kew Gardens is good...when it's nice out they have a little area in the back that you can sit outside.
In Forest Hills--- Cubana's is great! Also, Mocha, which I thought the food was pretty good, but you're really paying for the atmosphere- the red glowing tables and fancy bathrooms!
Just Like Mothers in Forest Hills on Queens Blvd is also delicious for Lunch! YUM

If anybody is into Indian food, then try out Balduchi's

Re: Recs on Forest Hills Restaurants?
Love Cabana and Q Thai Bistro...Barrosas is amazing on woodhaven...also like Dee's (our first date I guess? haha) , Alberto is PHENOMENTAL (also on Metro)...Oh i also went to one of those Brazilian steak places on Metro that was great...no clue what the same was, something with a P?
My Kitchen--we had FFIL's birthday party there and it was awesome!
5 Burros is slightly above average.
Has anyone been to the new steak place a few doors down from Cabana? I'm curious.

Re: Recs on Forest Hills Restaurants?
don't forget about Metropolitan Ave.! there are TONS of restaurants along the entire street...my faves: DEFINETLY check out Danny Browns...wine bar/fine dining at super reasonable prices! Prob. one of my faves...if u like sushi, check out Jade..it's right by the lirr station. St. James(again on metro) is good for cheap eats/bar food...
Pappas is a fairly new argentinian place...AWESOME!!! their empanadas are phenomenal... Alberto's is supposed to be an all time fave but we have yet to check it out, there's also a homestyle mexican place that recently opened up called Cassa de Elian..its byob lol - and the food is supposed to be great - again, have yet to check it out.
btw - u must MUST pay a visit to Eddie's Sweet Shop for an icecream sunday...the place is historic and EVERYTHING is homemade...i drool just thinking about it

OK i had to bump this bc today for lunch dh wanted Mardi gras and i said its closed down. So we said we'll go to Cabana, but we park right in front of Mardi gras and notice theres staff inside and then a guy walks out who works in there, he came out to smoke a cig. We asked if it was open and he said they will open at 4pm, it was 2:30pm and they were opening up for dinner at 4pm. THe sign still said Mardi gras and same food. So just wanted to inform ppl that Mardi gras isn't closed. Of course dh was so upset at first and then laughed at me when it was open lol.
