red dress for wedding

Hey ladies, I need some advice.

I have a wedding to go to and it's at an upscale restaurant on the west coast. The ceremony and reception will be there.

So I have a red cocktail dress, it's fitted, with a heart shaped neckline with black lace around the waist with a bow.

Now my question to all of you, is it okay to wear a red dress. My sister says red is a no no and I don't' know what to do....HELP!!! Is it okay? you can be honest, I won't feel bad

wear it! why is red a no no? i think my mom is wearing red to mine.. and my bridesmaids are wearing red lol anyway, i say if it looks good and you feel good in it then wear it!

yea, I guess if you're a guest, then red is a no no like white. I thought I just missed that in the etiquette book...LOL

Why is red a no no? I wore red to weddings...twice....one was lipstick red and the other was burgundy...I got a lot of compliments... I don't see the big deal

wear what you want except white.... red is fine, im getting sick of all these 'color rules' it's not the 1950's anymore

i know red is a no no at a funeral.. but never heard that for a wedding..i'd def. wear it! IMO I'd want my guests to look and feel their best...and as long as no one else is wearing a wedding dress or a bikini i wouldn't mind! lol.

yea I just googled it and it said that guests shouldn't wear red to steal the bride's' thunder, but I don't see it that way

i wore red to a wedding in april and i was SOOOOOO concerned the whole way there, doubting my judgement.

i was one of about 20 ladies wearing red. one was at our table.

maybe it used to be a no-no but i don't think that's the case these days.

i say wear it, it sounds adorable!!

red used to be considered a big NO because it's such a vibrant sexy color that it can take away from the bride.
If it's a super sexy red dress I probobly wouldnt wear it. But that's just me.

Edited to add that if someone wore red to MY wedding, i wouldnt care.

i guess red can be a really STAND OUT color.. so i can see where they get that from.. but i still think it's silly. the bride is always going to be the center of attention. nothing is quite as stunning as a bride in a wedding dress. i'd still go for it!

aahh that makes sense... but i agree- if its like a super sexy dress that might steal the spotlight i wouldnt do it.

I just went to a wedding where the bride wore a red wedding gown and she asked that no one where red b/c it was like her 'white'. Other than that I've never heard that you can't wear red. If you feel comfortable in it, you should wear it.
