Re: Redoing Kitchen..
Are you doing a full gut or are you able to save the cabinets and reface them?
I would try looking into Lowes and Home Depot to start....
If you dont have that much money to work with - try Ikea

Then I would definitely hire a specialized kitchen contractor. Home Depot subcontracts everything out. I once used them just for carpenting and that was a nightmare. I would suggest you go see someone who specializes in kitchens. Consumers is expensive. Don't talk to the salesmen, you want the actual designer who will oversee the install and act as a general contractor.
We just completely gut our kitchens and bath... FIL has been a kitchen contractor for over 40 years. I would FM you his info but he is booked solid for the next year.

I would not go to Cosumers at all. We went there and after spending at least 12 hours on on design with our 'designer' almost every single cabinet came in with some sort of issue (wrong size, opened the wrong way, wrong hardware, etc). They then make you wait 2 or 3 more months again when they need to send soemthing out when it was their fault in the first place. We paid A LOT of money as well for our new kitchen.

Ok... If your redoing cabinets STAY AWAY FROM DEPOT!!!! They are over priced. I got a quote for new cabinets from them and it was 12,000.00 and there layout was horrible. I was absolutly unsatisfied. I went to Mega cabinets in Amityville. ( I dont know where your located) but they were amazing. Great cabinets only takes 4 weeks and I got half the cost of depot. it was 6,000. definitly worth checking them out! good luck!

Ikea has recently updated and upgraded their kitchen cabinets. I would check them out. You can actually download a layout designer from their website.
