Regarding gifts and registries...

Regarding gifts and registries...

What's the point of gift registries if people are not going to get the stuff on there? I mean, I got two gifts that, while I appreciate the thought behind them, they are not my style. I really have no use for them but I don't want to insult the people who bought them. So what do I do with them?

Do you know where they were bought?

Maybe you can say that you have something similiar and could use something else...

2? You're complaining about 2?

I got AT LEAST 15 Mikasa items that were NOT on my registry...and, they were GIGANTIC...Literally, about 1/3 of the gifts that I received were NOT on my registry...And, there is SO much left on there...

I even got wedding gifts that were NOT on my registry...

So, I was able to return a bunch of them to the Mikasa store. I got almost $300 in store credit...but, I don't need anything from there. I'll just use the credit to do holiday/gift shopping for other people...

But, what do I do with all the rest?

They are just guide lines for things you would like.

Some people find the existance of registries offensive and make a point not to shop from them. I never quite understood that since my ultimate gift giving goal is for the recipient to enjoy the gift.

DH's cousin is one of those people that doesn't shop from the registry and got me BBQ stuff for a shower gift but we live in an apartment! I gave it to my sister since she was just moving into a house and I would have absolutely no use for it.

There was nothing else to do but graciously thank her for the gift.

I know it is so annoyiong - at my engagement party i barely got anything off my registry - but got lots of other crap like a large angel with something on it - also go lots of lenox vases and frames - but i hate ivory and gold - the hard part is figuiring out where they got it to return it

The worst is my FMIL does not like to buy from the registry so she spent $250 on a small glass hand cooler - it is in the shape of two hearts - i live in an apartment and have no room for knicknacks

thanks for letting me vent

Some people like the element of surprise. SOmeone from my family already told me they're not buying from the registry because they want me to be surprised. I wanted to say, 'Won't you be surprised when I return it because I don't like it'...
Who knows, I might like it

Just because you have the registries, doesn't mean that the guests have to use it. If they want to get you something that they will be sure you want, then of course they will... but some guests want to get 'unique, thoughtful' gifts sometimes... so we just deal, and sell them on ebay, and buy something else with the $...

This is exactly what I am experienceing today. My engagment party was sat. and I got about 10 gifts that I'll never use and also du-plicates. I tired to return some stuff to Macy's and they won't take back lenox or mikasa items without a receipt. Don't know what to do with the stuff.

Re: Regarding gifts and registries...

My engagement party was this weekend and I got a set of mini Lenox vases and a picture frame from Mikasa. While I greatly appreciate the thought, these items don't within the style of our house or us in general. I was considering exchanging the vase set for 1 larger vase, and the picture fram e I would like to exchange for one in a more suitable design.

I dont have recpets for these items, but they are both on the company websites. I am wondering if I can take them to the stores and exchange them.

Here are pictures of what I got.

why not just hang onto them and give them to someone as a gift?

Well, three reasons.

#1 - I am against regifting.

#2 - Anyone I would give them to was at the party which I got them at.

#3 - I appreciate the thought immensly so I just want to change them for something that fits our home.

it IS frustrating, but there's nothing you can do about it!

Just smile, say thanks and run to the store to excange it!
