Sooooo.....I was unwrapping a shower gift from a certain close member of FH's family and I got soooooo excited b/c it was a Tiffany Box and inside was a really pretty bowl from Tiffany's. I was like WOW THANK YOUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!! So when we got home and I had more time to look at it, I was so excited to show FH and he yelled out.......
'RE-GIFTED'!!!!!!!!!!!!
In all the craziness of the shower, I never really noticed that the box was beat up and it wasn't packaged like a regular Tiffany Item. FH gets me so much stuff for Tiffany's so of course he would notice.
Regardless, it's a really cute bowl so i'm not sure if i'm offended or not?
Would you be??

If I liked the item and it wasn't previously used then no I would not be pissed.
Now I know someone who got a regifted item and the person did not realize that when they received it the original buyer put a personalized note in it. So when the second receiver got it they knew it was regifted and that the other person didn't even take it out of the box

If you like it, who cares? We've all done it!

A little bit only because it means they just did not want it and passed it on. Aw heck - enjoy the beautiful gift.

I would be a little offended but since you love it...I guess I would let it slide.

I definitely got a reused gift. I probably wouldn't have minded so much except for the fact that it was given to me 3 months after my engagement and I had already received 2 of the similar item. I plan on selling it on ebay.

I dont think I would be mad...they may have thought you would like it. Maybe it was bought for them and instead of returning it they passed it on to someone who would appreciate it??

Re: 'REGIFTED' Shower Item.....Offended or Not??
I totally forgot I got a regifted item when we got engaged. It was so weird! We didn't have a party or anything and we didn't expect engagement gifts. LOL. But DH's cousin gave us a slow cooker and said it was from her dad (DH's uncle). We thanked DH's uncle and he looked at us like we had 5 heads. And it was themost random brand slow cooker and I cant find anywhere that sells it. His mom thinks its old and they have had it for sometime. But it is unused.
Anyone want a slow cooker???????

lol @ selected prejudice. i'd be a little offended that it was a regift but glad its something i liked!
call be superficial but i'd probably rather get a regift i liked than a non-registry non-regift i didnt
I agree with the above completely. In the end be glad it's a regift you like. You could've gotten a regifted frog lamp or candy cane napkins or something else weird!

Re: 'REGIFTED' Shower Item.....Offended or Not??
How about a regifted wooden bowl from Crate and Barrel with the original cards still inside as a wedding gift?
I'd appreciate the Tiffany bowl more than the wooden one I got, but either way, yes, I'd be offended. NOT b/c it's a regift, but b/c it's an OBVIOUS regift.

as long as it looks new, whats the big deal? Maybe someone gave it to them and they already had it so they decided to keep it to give it to someone who might not have it. It dosent mean the bowl is throwaway crap and they are giving you something they didn't want. Why buy you something 'new' if they already had something to give that they knew you would like that wasn't used?

i think the key to the whole thing is that you aren't supposed to find out, maybe they should had gotten a new box....

ditto! if you really like it who cares.
for a different story, my FH's aunt and uncle bought us an engagement gift, when we completely opened it up there was a card inside from people we had never heard of. Apparently someone else returned the gift and forgot to take the card out. oops. we were laughing about it

Re: 'REGIFTED' Shower Item.....Offended or Not??
Maybe they couldn't afford to get you a gift and knew how much you loved Tiffany and decided to give that to you? I could be a thoughtful thing too. Maybe they knew how you would feel about this item and decided to pass it on to you, thinking you would love it. I could be cheapness also. For my first wedding, one of my cousins gave as a shower gift a TWIN comforter! When I asked where she got it so I could exchange it, she said she would do it. 15 years later, I am still waiting. She use to go to Chinese auctions and I am sure that is where it came frok. My mom tends to give me back gifts that I gave her, she forgots. Although I had a yard sale recently and she saw some items she gave me being sold, still new, she was mad. I guess it all depends on the intention.

Yea it's just a strange situation. I know it's not that this woman doesn't have money....I sort of feel like...ok , thanks for not thinking im worth the $50 she'd probably spend....b/c that's how they are. However, i'd still rather have the Tiff. bowl than a $50 gift Oh well.....and some of the stories you girls are telling are so funny!

What I thought was hysterical was when I opened one of my gifts it had a shower card in it from someone else...lol They fogot to take the old card out!!! But it wasn't anyone who came to my shower. they must have returned it to BBB and then someone bought it without checking it...lol It was funny!!

I wouldn't be offended. All the mags I read say it's ok to regift if 1) you know the person who gave it to you will never find out, and 2) you know the person you are giving it to will love it. It sounds like whoever gave it to you at least knew you well enough to know that they had met the 2) requirement. If this person gives you another regifted item for your wedding, I'd be offended then (um, like a check with that person's name on it!). Just kidding about the check. Honestly, the person could have gotten it and IMMEDIATELY thought that you would love it and decided to give it to you. I don't think regifting has to imply the person's cheap - I think it's more in line with 'Well, I really don't need this, but I know that Anamarie will love it, so I will give it to her.'
Hope you enjoy it!!
I totally agree with this sentiment. I don't think it implys being cheap i think sometimes regifting is smart if you got something nice and know that you won't be using it. I wouldn't be offended especially since you don't know for sure. A beaten up box doesn't garuntee a regift....I know if i took off that bow to show someone what was inside I would never be able to tie it back on again!
