Re: Register??????????
So far we have registered at Fortunoff and Crate and Barrell. Fortunoff and Bed Bath and Beyond tend to be the most popular places to register. We are getting married next June and we registered in January b/c we had our e-party in Feb. and people where already asking us where we registered!! You can register now if you want to and pick out a few things. (it's a lot of fun!!)But be careful about registering for bedding and bath as those things tend to get discontinued since every since they bring out new things. Usually when your shower invites go out, there is a slip also included telling your guests where you are registered. Hope this helps!!

Re: Register??????????
We registered in December - People were asking us from the moment we got engaged if we were registered - so that they could send us a gift - but Mom and dad told relatives to hold off b/c she wanted them to come to our engagement party rather than bring us a gift...lol. But I see nothing wrong with going and registering for some of your stuff- we did - our good stuff - china, crystal, flatware, etc. Household items - blenders, coffee makers etc.
We did not register yet for bedding or linens since they are discontinued every few months - I would hold off until 6 months before for that -
Etd to say - your family and bridal party should tell guests where you are registered. JMO it is tacky to put cards in invites - however it is a gray area with shower invites - I don't like them but some don't mind. We had NO problem with people figuring out where we were registered. They either called my parents, or bridal party or searched the internet and easily found us ( I think even one of two people asked us directly where we were registered)- Don't worry about the cards if someone wants to buy you a registery gift they will find a way to figure out where you are registered JMO

Re: Register??????????
We registered for a few things right after we got engaged, mostly because I love to shop! That, and everyone kept asking. We didn't have an engagement party, but most of our relatives gave us gifts (mostly monetary, but a few registry) Since then, we've received registry gifts for christmas, and birthdays. Right now we're only registered at Macy's, but I'm thinking of adding williams-sonoma when we get closer to the big day.

Re: Register??????????
we did ours a few months after we got engaged. a lot of it was for fun, but a majority of it was because we weren't going toooo crazy with vendors yet & it was just a good time for us to do it!
as for the timeline of when it should be done... it really depends on the store. one of the first places that i registered @ was pottery barn, and was very upset when i found out that the whole registry was discontinued.... within 1 month and a half.......

Re: Register??????????
My fiance and I registered a couple of months after we got engaged, which was last April. I was really eager to register, and I found that people were asking us where we registered right away. We chose Fortunoff and Bed Bath & Beyond. WE haven't registered for linens or towels yet and won't until much closer to our wedding. As far as letting people know where you're registered, I just tell whoever asks. Bed bath and beyond gave us little cards to send out, but I don't like doing that - I feel like it's too much like asking for gifts. Enjoy registering - it's so much fun!

Re: Register??????????
We are probably not going to register at all. FH and I have lived together for 4 years and although we do not have a house yet (just an apartment)-we feel it unnecessary to register. What we want to do is have everyone contribute to a fund for a deposit for a house. I found the basic info in a magazine-its by the national home owners association and they have an sort of bank account or 'registry' in which people can put their 'gift' of $$ to go towards a house. I think its a much more practical and useful gift.
We are just not sure yet how to ask/word it. And if I need to be sure not to have a shower b/c there will be no 'real' gifts there.
That is my dilemma

Re: Register??????????
we haven't registered yet. We had an e-prty and everyone wanted to know where we were registered but mom said it was too early... (engaged 7/6/02 e-party 9/22/02 not getting married till 5/1/04)... but we'll probably do Macys, Bed Bath and Beyond and JC Pennys... Personally I tried to pick stores that are big chains that way all out of town guests, if they wanted to get us something, could find one of those stores around..
hope this helps..

Re: Register??????????
We aren't registered yet. We'll probably wait till next year (we are getting married in Sept 04) so I don't really feel like it's something I absolutely have to do now. Especially because there is no E-Party. Plus in lieu of gifts for engagement some people are offering to buy us this we need for the wedding which I much prefer. (Like bubbles for the people to blow, cameras, my throw away bouqet, etc) It helps keeps costs low.

Re: Register??????????
Fortunoff's. I want to register at Crate & Barrel as well - I started an on-line registry but we still need to go to the store and look and maybe we'll take some things off the Fortunoff one.

I registered at Fortunoff and soon after I got engaged. It's never too soon to register. People might want to buy you engagement gifts & such.

Re: Register??????????
I registered at Williams Sonoma and Macy's. The WS stuff is so much fun! I know that a lot of things might change by the time I get married, so I will have to keep my eyes on it. Its so much fun though!
