Register for the marriage license

Hi girls, My finance and I will get married in NYC next year, but we are living in CA. Can we register the marriage in CA or do we have to register in NY and when is a appropriate time to register for a marriage license?

you have to get your marriage license in the state you get married so it has to be NY - it is good for 60 day - but requires 24 hours before it can be used -

Needs to be done in the state you will marry.
