Register now???

Register now???

My engagement party is 7/7.

Our sly plan was to hold off on registering until after, so as to maximize our cash gifts. Trashy, I know. But we're paying for everything ourselves so it would be a huge help.

Lately Ive been getting a lot of questions (pressure!!) from prospective guests that I should register before the party 'just in case ppl want to buy us gifts.' What do I do? Cave and register?

our party is 7/7/7 also .. we registered about 6 weeks ago and ever since, we've been recieving gifts even from those not invited to the eparty. I think its a good idea to register, this way, if people want to buy you a gift, at least you are assured it it something you wanted...

we still have another 3 weeks till our party and everyday we get gifts in the mail ... its like christmas everyday

We had the same problem. We DID NOT register before our eparty (but at the time of ours it was 1 yr 9 months away from our wedding). People would ask us where we were registered. Our reply was: We have no registered. Our wedding is still far away and we are unsure of what items we want/ need and we dont want our tastes to change. We told them to please feel free to but us a gift if they would like.

I think people were then unsure of what to get us so We mostly recieved cash gifts.. which was better for us. It is def helping to pay some wedding expenses. I believe we only recieved about 5 gifts.

Peronslaly I have ALWAYS given money at eparties. I think a bridal shower is for opening gifts, not an eparty. I couldnt imagine sitting through an eparty watching someone open gifts, its suppose to be a time to celebrate and have fun.

If you do not want to reguster yet, do not let anyone force you into it. Just give a general statement like i stated above.

Hm, this is all good advice. I have to discuss w/FH and see what he thinks. I'd enjoy getting random gifts in the mail I think though!

I registered about 2 months before our e-party just to give someone that option if they wanted it. Not one person who came to our party gave us a gift, they all gave money. We did receive gifts though from a few ppl that didn't come to the party.

I'm with you. I understand the need for cash gifts b/c we are paying for the wedding ourselves. I was going to post a similar question, but you beat me to it. I will have to discuss the idea of not registering yet with my FH, because I think he will want us to register. I am sure there will be pressure though.

We are also paying for our wedding and were hoping to get cash at our engagement party too. We took a risk and did NOT register and everything went well.

We did get a few of those traditional gifts (lenox frames, mikasa stuff) but mostly money (our friends and family were EXTREMELY generous).

good luck

Re: Register now???

I decided to circumvent the situation, and I made a registry and put 5 absolutely absurd items on there. One of them is an orange peeler in the shape of a bird. That shoudl teach people to try and tell me what to do!

Although maybe I'll get a bird peeler for an engagement gift.

we didnt have an E-party but i've always been told to register AFTER it if you have one. This way people give cash and it helps pay for the wedding.
People who'd prefer to give a gift over cash will find something without needing the registry.

i know people who received well over $3000 at their engagement party alone and that wound up paying for a big vendor.

I don't think it's tacky or trashy to hold off on registering.

I would totally get you the orange peeler if i was going to that party, and it wouldnt be me trying to be b itchy either. So chances are... you'll get it.

omg my e-party is 7-7 too!!!

we registered, but if you only want cash i would say hold off.

But i know someone who didnt register at all, and people brought her so many gifts
tons and tons of gifts that she didnt register for.

I guess it depends on hte people and the family

You just going to have to wait and see!

My family is cheap. I'll probably recieve lots of 9.99 coffee makers from kmart.

I'm not sure if this will work, but here's a link to my all star registry:

when you're posting, on the left hand side, under the smiley faces there is a green area that says 'add feature'

There's a link that says Insert WebLink
Click that. Put the words you want the link to say. Then in the next box that pops up put the link.
