Register or Not?

Register or Not?

Well, my FH and I have been debating this for weeks now. He does not want to register because he feels that makes our families have to buy us gifts. We are going to have an engagement party in the spring or summer. I don't expect nor want gifts for this. It is just basically a time to get together, drink, and have fun. We came to a decision that we should register, due to my persistance. Because I don't want to have to return 5 blenders to 5 different stores. If you know what I mean. Now the desision is where to register. He says Target. I say Macys. Are there any stores out there that I should take into consideration???

We registered at both Target and Fortunoff. We had people get things from both registeries. I think using more than 1 store is a good idea. It gives people options. If you want, do Target and Macy's, that would be perfect, plenty of locations of both on LI.

Macy's, Fortunoff, Crate & Barrel - more upscale
Bed, Bath & Beyond, Linens & Things - middle
Target, Kohls - less expensive.

Why don't you register at two places. give your guests an option.

we're probably doing- Macys, Target and/or Bed Bath and Beyond.
Macys is good because you're also registered in ANY Federated store across the country. So those out of town guests can still shop from that registry. Thats why I didn't want to go with Fortunoffs.

Thanks. Thats a good Idea. I guess I will try to talk him into more than one place.

Another suggestion woukld be to just take him to reister at one store and go to other store without him. My FI was interested in the Williams Sonoma stuff and the barware. Other than that he had no interest in bedding or china from Bloomingdales.

You can also make sure he realizes that people EXPECT you to register. Regardless of whether or not you want gifts for your enagement or wedding, you're going to get them (unless you specify, no gifts). It makes it easier for people - see, you're actually being considerate!

Whether you want or expect to receive gifts or not - in the end you will get them. So, I would definitely register! If you are going to get gifts, let them be things you want rather than things you hate that you might not be able to return - then it would just be a waste of your guest's money. I'm registered at C&B - inexpensive, everyday things such as everyday dishes and glasses, kitchen gadgets and fun things like fondue set, and Bloomingdales for more upsacale items: linens and crystal.

I think registering is the way to go. Your family and friends will love to get you something you really want and those that do not like registries will not even check them.

Try to pick stores that are in the areas where your guests live and pick things in all price ranges.

i would honestly say to wait. im getting married in july and registered last august and soo many things have been discontinued. Its just a pain in the butt having to go update it for that long of a time, but if you dont mind, go for it.

IMO, you MUST REGISTER!!! I'd recommend Fortunoff...someone already mentioned this but for starters, people do expect that you will register. People are going to give you gifts - its what people do at engagement parties, showers and weddings!! Not registering only ensures a livingroom full of crystal picture frames (I mean like 30 of them) and towels and linens in colors like puke green and burnt orange...unless that is your color scheme, in which case, please take no offense.

While you register, keep in mind the prices of the things you put on your list and the budgets of your guests who will be purchasing gifts for you. And just because you register doesn't mean that everyone will buy your gifts from the registry, but a majority will find it very helpful.

Re: Register or Not?

I did my registry at both Fortunoff and Macys' this past weekend and am glad I did! You also get a lot of cool coupons and also an extra % off if you want to buy them yourself after the wedding.

Re: Register or Not?

Fortunoff is the place. They are very organized and have great/affordable stuff. I've heard horror stories about macys....such as when your items are discontinued or out of stock, they do not inform you, etc.

Re: Register or Not?

unless you want mismatch crystal bowls and picture frames..

people WANT to buy you something...its not required...but people like to.

I registered at Fortunoffs and BB&B, b/c of their great selection and also because of their return poilcy....I have heard bad things about Targets return policy...and if you are anything like me...you will be exchanging and returning items...
