Re: registering
We registered very early- at Macy's and Pier one Now alot of the items are discontinued or out of season-(mostly at Pier One) I don't recommend going to early.
I suggest like 6 months in advance- you know your shower isn't going to be anytime before that.

Re: registering
You can register for a few things now, like maybe your china, crystal, etc. My parents bought us our flatware as an engagement gift. If you are having an engagement party then of course you'll want to register before then, but even if you don't have an engagement party, people may still want to buy you a gift. They may also want to get you something off the registry for the holidays....
I just finished registering last month and my shower is next weekend.

Re: registering
We just finished our registry in Macy's. It took like 3 or 4 trips and we had a blast. I guess there are pro's and con's reviewing early. I would say, if you register so early they might not have things available by the time the wedding comes around, but if you do register early people can give you engagement presents, birthday or for any other occasions. Best of luck

Re: registering
I agree wiht getting some things now, like china, crystal, etc. In my family people always get holiday gifts off the registry. Also, try to go to one of the Fortunoff Sundya events. They're not super exciting, but they're worth it. you get a lot of help and a $25 gift card!
