Registering....

Registering....

is stressful. We started a pottery barn registry last week and that wasn't so bad b/c it was more decorative stuff. Last night we went to Fortunoff and my head was spinning. Granted we didn't have much time b/c they closed at 9:30, but we only zapped like 6 things.
We couldn't decide on dishes, flatware, and well just about everything else on the list
Anyone else find registering overwhelming?

yes i thought so - i had a headache after and trying to find out what to put on it! I really did not want to register - but after being yelled (not really yell yell) at from some friends and coworkers... i decided to register...

Re: Registering....

I have to admit, registering was a bit of a hassle.

I actually went back to Fortunoff by myself early one Saturday (I was there when they first opened) and finished it myself. There is so much to choose from that it's easy to get overwhelmed and get caught up in all the stuff. I actually made a list and had FH write down things that he definitely wanted and went from there. Once I came armed with my lists, it was a little easier.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way about registering! I was so overwhelmed....it was awful!
We seriously took 3 months, because we did things in small increments, this defintiely helped!

Re: Registering....

I wrote a list of what I would like to register for at Fortunoff's
I plan on going with FH for the major items, like china and crystal, bedding, and then doing the rest on my own. (unless he wants to)
Less stress for me !

Re: Registering....

It can be a lot so FH and I only allow ourselves to register for and hour and a half each time we go. Anything that we have not done we add to the list to do next time. It has made it less stressful for us. My biggest issue is figuring out what we need/want.

OMG I know how you feel! Originally I didn't want to register for china, because really, it's not going to get used until we have a house and actually have holidays there.....but my mom convinced me of it.

Mom and I spent 2 hours at Macy's the first time - 1 hour of which I spent inspecting 2 different patterns that looked almost exactly alike. It was so overwhelming.

BBB was actually a lot more fun, FH and I went and he had the gun - now THAT was dangerous. He zapped things from every department in the store I think - then we got home and I just deleted online what I didn't want!

We actually had fun registering and as long as FH had control of the zapping gun, he was a happy camper. He actually got a little zap happy and was zapping things that we didn't need (I am thinking about a $2,000 cappucino machine).

It was a huge headache. I found it easier to add stuff on the websites. The stores were really overwhelming. My shower is in 2 days and I am still changing things on my registry!!!!!

I too did not want to register for China, but was convinced. In the end, I figured that it doesn't hurt.

Now, FH's mom is criticizing the price of the China--it's more expensive for a reason right??? And it was them that insisted on it...

Re: Registering....

It is overwhelming and tiring.... Try not to do all in one day. And most registeries will let you add online. So take advantage of that too if you can. WE did!

YES! Oh my God, I hated registring. I found it weird that everyone told me that is the best party and so fun but then when I registered at Fortunoff and BBB, i wanted to kill somebody. It was very stressful and such a PITA!

Im glad it's over..but Im also glad all got all the gifts I did

Glad I'm not the only one!!! I had a list...but it was very general. When I stood in front of all the dishes, I couldn't choose one.
I've been looking online and writing things down that appeal to me and then check them out in person. FH is into the house stuff (no so much cookware/bakeware) but definitely has his opinions about stuff like dishes and flatware. Who knew????

Re: Registering....

I have been having the hardest time with it too! We bought our house a little over a year ago, and have many of the things we need. I would love a new set of dishes mine are starting to get chipped and marred, but I feel wasteful asking for a new set, when the ones I have still work.

FH and I both grew up in large families (I'm one of 7 and he's one of 5), our mother's didn't work, so $ was tight and you didn't waste or ask for frivilous things. I keep struggling with balancing want and need.

I agree - we did it little by little (and are still trying to finish up)...just focus on one thing at a time - good luck & have fun

OMG YES! We registered at Fortunoff's first and we spent about 50 minutes looking at china. We were there 3 1/2 hours. I went to Macy's and registered on my own and it was much easier there.
