Registering

Re: Registering

Honestly unless you're putting on the invite that you don't want gifts, I think it is a little rude. My FH and I are paying for our wedding ourselves, so i definitely understand needing the cash, but people are going to want to get you something, and not registering is basically saying you want cash.

On the other side, if you don't register, a lot of people will still get you gifts, and if you don't register, you will get a lot of stuff you don't want.

I do not think it is rude at all. I have never been invited to an engagement party where registry cards were in the invite. I always gave cash and all i received for my own was cash. Atleast in my family, cash is the norm for both engagement and wedding. Gifts are given at the shower and it is expected that you reg for the shower.

I think it depends on the family. My FH is not form NY and so his family does not give cash. SO I felt like I had to register becasue they would not know what to get other wise.

It is definitely not 'Rude' to not register. The only benefit of registering before your engagement party takes place is that if someone who is invited to your e-party asks you, 'Where are you guys registered?', you can tell them the name of the store(s) and they are free to go online/in-store and purchase you a gift that you have pre-selected that you like and is your taste.

I think it's better to register .. some people just won't give cash as an engagement gift, so you might as well have them get you something you want/need.

I agree with this but if your engagement party is relativly soon then I think you are OK. You don't 'have' to be registered this soon.

I think registering is helpful, but not rude not to. Now you need to be registered in time for a shower, but if you're having your party early on and haven't gotten to the task of registering because it is a giant undertaking, don't sweat it. You just may get gifts that you don't want and don't have a place for, so at least if you're registered you should get stuff that you want :)

If you don't register, you'll probably get some stuff you don't want.
