this can happen at almost any store, its a risk you take when registering
Even at big dept stores ? How about if someone buys the potential discont. stuff quickly off the reg, then you are OK, no?

It happens everywhere, but some stores dont change their stock as regularly. Ex: Macys usually carries the same towels, china, appliances, etc -- they are sometimes discontinued, but they usually have a really big stock when they do and it's not like they clear house every season. Same with BBB, they carry a lot of stock that doesn't change season to season.
Crate & Barrel is more like a clothing store in that they constantly put out new stuff and discontinue things each season. You can buy things quickly when you find out they are being discontinued (which is what we did) and you can also have your family encourage people to try to buy the 'limited quantity' items first.
Espo, does C&B have a set time each year where the new stuff comes out and the old stuff is discontinued? It's probably best to register at the beginning of the new cycle so you know you'll have X amount of time w/ that stock available, and make sure you don't register right before the stock changes (like we accidentally did).

Yay! That's so exciting! I'm assuming my shower will be when I'm home for spring break, although I guess it could be the beginning of may since I'll be in NY for the first half of the summer now. I don't know how far in advance they usually are...
Maybe FH and I will update our registries before spring break just in case, and then again closer to the wedding since his family is OOT and will probably want to do gifts instead of $$$.
