ok so.....i have to ask you all again since I can't find the old post.....
should I register before my eparty or after? We are hoping for mostly cash, since we kinda need it to pay for our vendors, etc......
my sister said to register for just big ticket items now, maybe like luggage, mixers, etc......
FH doesn't care either way, just hopes that we get mostly money and not all gifts......
ideas?? what did you guys do?

I would register for a few things because if people want to get you a gift, they WILL get you a gift, and better something you want than another picture frame! Your mom could help spread word of mouth that you'd prefer money though.

yeah my parents are buying me my entire fine china set, so luckily I don't have to list that...i guess I can register for maybe a handful of things just so they can pick from but maybe I won't add it in the eparty invite? like i won't send out those registry info cards and if they ask my mom or FMIL, they can say it and if not, then $ it is!

well greeks and italians usually always give money. so ur safe.. but if u have a bunch of younger friends going... i would casually announce that u registered. theres always guna be that 1 or 2 guests that have the cheappie disease and will get u a 5$ gift . so be prepared

We registered before, because a lot of people were asking. But we got a combination of both gifts and cash. A lot of people gave cash and then a small gift off the registry (i.e., a picture frame, a set of martini glasses, etc.) The people who bought big ticket items (i.e. china, pots and pans) were our parents, so they didn't give us any cash.

we registered and got almost ALL our china. still waiting on 4 place settings. plus money and some other gifts. i would definietely register. people are going to give u money for your wedding and most likely give you a gift for your engagement party and bridal shower. thats at least what my family does. they insisted i make a registry. and im glad i did.

We had the same dilemma. We wanted money to help pay for the wedding. But ultimately we decided to register before the e-party and it's a good thing we did because some people were asking our parents. We didn't include any registry information anywhere, but if they asked then they were told where we registered. We did get a bunch of gifts from friends, etc. (and this way we got what we wanted). But we also got money from most of the family, so I wouldn't worry about it.

If you want cash DONT register! We didn’t register and we got lots of envelopes!
We only got as gifts one set of candle holders and a wine set from tiffany’s.

i didn't register for my eparty. we would have had no where to put anything. we rec'd mostly cash from everyone except for FH's grandma who gave us a glass set. it helped a lot with our wedding savings!

we registered before the e-party but didnt announce it to anyone. we got cash and gifts too. but mostly cash......... maybe its better to register so people who want to give u a gift can find ur registry and at least get u something that u want... jmo...

We waited to registered until after our e-party, because money was exactly what we wanted, and that's what we mostly got.
However, a few people bought us glasses and such anyway.. so maybe put a VERY small amount of items on it, like 5-10 that way if people are going to buy a gift, they will get it from there.

We registered only because our parent's friends started giving gifts (even before our e-party) and i didn't want to end up w/ a ton of stuff i wouldn't use.
