What do you ladies think about registering for China? I really want to, but my FMIL & FH's cousin & sister are trying to talk me out of it. Every time the registry is mentioned they say something about it being on the registry.
I think I will use it, definately at Thanksgiving & Christmas & special occasions, but they keep telling me it'll never happen. I am an idiot for wanting to register for it?
If you want it, get it!!! If you think that you'll use it on holidays, then definitely!!! Depending on where you register, you can get the remaining pieces on discount.

not to sound biitchy...but what fuking business is it for FH's cousin and FMIL if you register for china! if you want to...then do it. it's your registry not theirs.
sorry if i sound short....but i think that when it comes to items on your registry, the only opinions that matter are those of you and FH. if ppl don't want to buy the china off there, then they won't. pretty simple. no harm, no foul.
we registered for formal china, and i only got 5 place settings. you know what? DH and i plan on adding to it slowly as time goes on!

if you want it then do it, let them do what they want with their things and their house.
Some people never do use it and others use it all the time...At my house it is constantly used

My FH's family is saying the same thing to me, but I registered for it anyways. I know what I want and I know that I will use it for when we have company. I say do whatever you want.

Re: Registering for China?
you gotta have new china. maybe you can register for more informal dinnerware as oppose to the fine china. that way they'll feel you'll get the most out of it and leave you alone.

I def think it is something nice to have - When are you going to spend that kind of money on yourself? esp for china? My only thought would be to get lenox so you can at least go the outlets to get pieces you need at CHEAP CHEAP prices! My grandma prob bought my place settings for 20$ a piece at the outlets (granted she went to the warehouse in NJ and had my mom driving all over the tristate area to find pieces)

My china is the first thing I registered for. It will always make you remeber this time in your life when you use it. Plus...my mom always uses her china...so I know I will use mine also.

Re: Registering for China?
I registered for casual china it was a 45 piece set and service for 8 and I thoughtit was beautiful. It was under $200 for the set when it was on sale. I love it...let me see if I can post a pic...
there is no reason not to register for it, some registrys will give you a discount if no one purchases it for you, I know that Bed bath and beyond do that. But if you want it then theres no reason not to.

Totally not, if you don't get it you'll regret it. If you want it get it! We registered for ours at Fortunoff and just had my shower last weekend, we got all 12 place settings and the rest of the stuff that came with it. I'm excited about it

If you want it, put it on your list. MJDoc12 is totally right. I look at the registry as part necessity, part wishlist of fun little things. For example, FH and I don't cook. Couldn't care less about it. I can't tell you how many fun little kitchen gadgets we registered for just b/c we can (like a milkshake maker). The point is, you can put whatever you want on your registry and it's up to the guests to buy it or not. Even if they don't buy it, you can get it at a discount from the store. Or if you change your mind, you can return whatever's purchased and get something else that you really want!

I kind of think that I'll never use it, but then again, when else will you go decide to get china. I think if you want it, register for it. Also, some people would rather give you that as a gift then tupperware, you know?
