Registering for fine china

Original post by cj21512

How many of you plan to do this? Originally FH and I decided together we would not register for china but then I felt like I got forced into it by so many older women who said a bride MUST do this. Just wondering if you guys plan to do this or just skip it and get everyday dishes. (FYI I've registered for both so far, but since my shower invites have not gone out just yet, I can still technically delete it off the registry before any is bought). Seriously though ~ how often does it get used?! Haha!

I am registered for it, but my family uses them for very holiday we celebrate. I don't think it's something is ever buy myself, so I registered for it. But I don't think it's necessary anymore.

This! I absolutely plan to use it for holidays and know I won't want to buy it myself. I chose a Lenox pattern, it's beautiful!

We didn't register for fine china but instead for a semi fine china. We registered for it at BBB. It is called Noritake. It's nice enough to use for a holiday dinner but also can be used everyday. The best part is that it is dishwasher safe, can go in the oven, and is unbreakable. The lady literally put a coffee cup on the floor and had FH stand on it and it did not break!!

This!!

Not us. I'll take my mother's china one day.

In addition to what I wrote before, we chose a pattern by Mikasa which is fairly inexpensive. Without looking it up right now, it might actually be less expensive than the every day dishes we picked!

FMIL has a huge collection of fine china that is being passed down to us. I didn't want to register for it, as I saw it being a waste of money. The fact that it is now something being passed down to us, makes it special. I'll probably never use it, but I guess it's nice to have.

We did the noritake thing too. Really inexpensive and to be honest when I did it, it didn't matter to me whether or not I got it. Fh is really clumsy, like he walks in a room and things fall to the floor, so I didn't want to get something that would break and I'd be upset but fmil got for us an gave it to us as an engagement gift and I gotta say I'm excited now that I have it. I'm excited for us to have our holidays. Our 'special dinners'

Nope. I have asked almost every married woman I know & not one of them said they have used their china regularly. There is no way I am going to waste money on things like that when we need everything for our home. Honestly, I could never use it for a holiday because I will always have more the 12 people over so it wouldn't work. We did register for 'casual' china which is a lenox 4 piece place setting. Its called opal innocence carved. Its casual enough to be used every day but should I have people over for a nice meal I can dress it up with linens & chargers.

ETA: I did register for some nice pieces, like candle stick holders, nice toasting flutes, some serving pieces, etc.

FH & I did register for it. It was something that I was on the fence about but really wanted because I felt (this may sound weird) I might regret not having it. I also think that it would be a wonderful heirloom to pass down one day!

no fine china. we picked a set we felt was appropriate for every day and special occassions and registered for 24 place settings so we would actually have enough to use if we did a holiday at our house.

No to fine china. I don't use anything that can't go in a dishwashwer, so I know I'd never use it. I'm trying to only register for practical items.

I fell in love with a set at Bedbath and Beyond but it's really expensive. It called Jeweled by Lenox. I know i will only have 1 shower and will eventually upgrade our co-op appt to a house within the next few years but I feel guilty for adding it to my registry.

I think we will register for china. There is a kate spade design I am currently lusting after... :)

I love the Kate spade china, and originally planned to register for it, but I fell for another pattern also and FH wasn't thrilled with the KS pattern. So I just registered for other KS stuff (salt and pepper shakers in the shape of a giraffe and an elephant, SO cute).

Also, a lot of fine china is now made to be dishwasher safe. Mine is, and my moms is too.

We registered for fine china because FH thinks it's necessary. I never had it in my house growing up. I wish we never put it on the registry, but someone already bought us 5 settings. I'm okay with that, but the 5 settings of china cost as much as ALL of the settings of our regular plates. I wish we would have just had gotten regular settings!

I registered for the china bc I think fine china is so pretty plus my sister in law said my registry looked skimpy and made me put it on! Igot lucky and my mother in law bought most of it for me along with some other people.
