Registering for your Honeymoon...

Registering for your Honeymoon...

ladies, what are your honest thoughts on this?

Some call it smart, others call it tacky. I had a very strong opinion about it a couple years ago, and now i'm unsure about it!

Good idea/bad idea?

Re: Registering for your Honeymoon...

i think it depends on what type of situations your in...I personally dont feel right asking people to pay for my hm, if we couldnt afford to go where we want to go we would go some place else. We are fortunate enough to have my parents paying for the wedding but if we werent then mayve wed do a hm registery. Before we were engaged i didnt even know this was an option until my hair dresser told me about hers.

I am in love with the idea! That is what I am doing and I think its perfectly fine. Besides you have to pay off your honeymoon regardless if they give you enough by the time of the wedding.

I already live with FH and I really don't need nor want anything more to clutter my house. I just had a housewarming party in October so I am set.

To not look tacky I use honeyfund and they let you put what options people can buy. So I wrote stuff like excursions, breakfast in bed, drinks and the like. You can make it look like they are just paying for extras to make your trip extra special as opposed to the whole honeymoon.

I think it could be a good option, but I'd probably do it along with a regular registry... not JUST a honeymoon registry. Some people really want to buy you physical things. Other people will be excited to buy you experiences.

(To make sure I'm clear... a honeymoon registry buys you massages, excursions, etc? It's not just asking them to donate money to your honeymoon, right?)

I was under the impression it could be either for the 'extras' or just to contribute in general but I have no idea I'm guessing you could set it up any way you wanted.

I'm pretty sure that you register for extras but in reality no matter what people buy for you - it just comes as cash from paypal. So really you could do whatever you want.

IMO I'm not into the honeymoon fund.

I love it, I think it's a great idea. I've had friends in the past that already lived with their FHs and had everything they needed/wanted for the house already. They did honeymoon registries instead. Why not?

I'm the type of person that likes to give gifts that will be enjoyed or wanted. I want people to tell me what they want so that my money does not go to waste. If they want that money to go to their honeymoon, then I'm all for it!!

I'll probably do one as well!

I am going to set one up and put the extra things that we want to do. I figure it is just another option. we are also having a registry at Bed Bath and Beyond and Crate and Barrel!

I think it's great!

I'm doing mine through Honeyfund, which I highly recommend. There's no fee. You can pay $29 for a prettier site, but we chose not to. People pledge a gift and then can either give you cash/check at the shower/wedding along with a certificate they give you to print out, OR they can directly deposit the money into your PayPal. I think it's great.

I wasn't really thinking of doing it, but then my friends asked us what kind of experience gifts we wanted since they wanted to do that instead of a more traditional gift or just cash. We've already gotten almost all of our excursions paid for! I did put contributions to the honeymoon on there, but no one has really gone for that.

I'm not depending on other people to pay for the honeymoon. We have to have ours completely paid in full by next week, so there's no way that would have worked, but the way I see it it's another option for guests to give you a memory instead of a toaster, or instead of money they don't know what you did with. I plan to send them photos of the excursions on the thank you cards.

Here's is our registry if you want an example. We put it on our wedding website and we each actually post it on facebook periodically. I usually post a link everytime I'm posting how excited I am about the honeymoon. Every time I post, someone actually buys something, so it's cool.

We were considering it, as we already live together and had to buy so many things anyway. But honestly I don't wanna hear the drama... Wahhh wahh wahh , from this that and then next person who want to buy you a gift and have you open it in front of them. I get it, I like to feel special too. Long story short, we are registered for a ton of stuff, and a $hitload of it will most likely be returned if people paid cash, so that we can get other things we do need still- larger things for the home, that no one person could buy. And, if we have extra cash to use for this that and the next thing... then it's our progative- (cue song)

Just my opinion but I'm not exactly the type to pull a page out of the good old traditional fairy tale wedding either!

Keep us posted!

On honeyfund you have complete control of what to write. HSsweethearts is right that your guests will get a certificate and they could put it in the card.

I stole most of my descriptions from the Sandals registry website. They have registries with all of the descriptions but their registry has a 7% fee. On honeyfund the only fee is the 3% fee deducted by paypal. I set up a Sandals registry, stole the descrptions and then shut it down

Re: Registering for your Honeymoon...

Also to respond to PP, you get a little ceritificate to put in a card. I opened a honeyfund gift at the shower (the rest are wedding gifts) and people definitely oohed and aaahed over it.

I think if someone wants their gift passed around adn oohed and aahed over, they'd just elect to get you something from yur traditional registry

Re: Registering for your Honeymoon...

We are planning on doing both a small registry for more of our old school guests who will not like the idea of the honeymood registry and the honeymoon registry.

We just moved in together 6 months ago and go all the stuff we pretty much need so I really don't want to ask for either new stuff that I don't need or a lot of stuff that I don't have room for, our apartment isn't that big. so a small reg one along with the honeymoon one get the best of both worlds

Crashing

FH and I lived together for years before he went to grad school and now we are finally moving back to NY into a small city apartment

We do not need a bunch of stuff that w have no room for

So we did a HM registry and the younger crowd thinks it is super cool that they can give us an experience instead of a thing

See our registry Here

i think it really all depends on your family. Some people think its super tacky and some people have no issue with it all at! Talk to your family and see what they think about it. I really dont have an opnion either way to be honest.
