FH and I went to register yesterday and completely disagreed on bedding and luggage so we just avoided it completely. For a guy, he has such a strong opinion on these things and it's driving me nuts. I already let him pick the everyday dishes! The comforter he liked was herendous and everything I picked he said that he hated (I think he was just being spiteful because I ripped his choice apart). He's going for more manly colors and looks as if he still lives in a bachelor pad. I don't know what we're going to do - we have such different tastes in things. He really needs to let the whole 'bachelor' look our apartment there's a bar where the dining room table should be with massive sports and FDNY stuff hanging everywhere! Ridiculous!

Well he is opinionated huh?! Ok... Although I love that you are letting him have so much input, I dont like that he wants it to be bachelor-ific! he needs to bend a bit...there is no reason why he shoudl get to pick the dishes, bedding, AND luggage too! These are 3 main picks and its not fair for you!

Re: Registering Has Not Been Fun For Me
Registereing has been hard for us. Mostly because FH likes VERY expensive kitchen items. Like a $500 knife block set, insanely expensive pots [every all clad available], etc. I keep telling him we need low priced items but he loves a luxury kitchen. I just decided to give in since we probably wont get the stuff he is adding anyway and if anyone makes comments I will just blame him- lol! Oh and his response when i tell him - 'just take off the expensive fine china'.

Re: Registering Has Not Been Fun For Me
Aww, I know what you mean! It is so hard to pick out something you both like! For bedding we went with basic sets...We chose neutral colors and plain prints. For luggage, we decided to register for two separate sets. I got pretty pink luggage and he is probably going to go with a basic black. I know it can be difficult but try not to stress out too much.. I am sure you guys can come up with a good compromise!

Yea I can relate! It's difficult having to make decisions when both are opinionated!! We thankfully manage to agree on a good amount of stuff but the registry is still a working progress

I totally feel your pain!!!
At first FH said he wasnt interested in doing the registry. But I told him we should do it together and pick and choose what we want together. What a BIG MISTAKE!!
He's the kinda guy when he is involved in something he totally immerses himself in it. He drove me nuts always asking why are you getting this as oppossed to that one, why is it better etc....

Oh, that's sounds upsetting, i'm sorry you two arent' having that much fun with it! Try to get him in a really good mood before you two go next time and keep the opinions light. If he really likes something that you don't like, ask him specifically what about it he likes, it may just be something that you two can compromise about. I've also kept the scanning time down to 2 hours, unless fh is really into it that day!

Why don't you give in on things like the luggage.....to me who cares what the luggage looks like and with the bedding try to find a happy medium. THings were easier with me and FH because Im not at all girly and I liked a lot of what he picked out.

That's the problem - I don't care what the luggage looks like....he does! And he's liking the most expensive luggage. I don't want ridculously expensive luggage because no one will be able to buy it for us. He has no concept of when to splurge and when not to splurge. I love him dearly but I'm ready to strangle him

Re: Registering Has Not Been Fun For Me
Maybe you should pick say 5 patterns/styles you like and ask him to pick one from those 5. And you can take turns and ask him to do it for the luggage (pick 5) and then you pick 1. That's worked pretty well for us between the registry and the planning.
FH likes black bedding and I obviously do not because I'm not a 15 year old boy. I had always wanted really nice bedding for my bridal shower but I'm lazy and never make the bed anyway so I told him that since he let me have my rooster dishes from Williams-Sonoma, that he could pick our bedding and if he wanted black, he could have black (with my final approval of course). We'll move eventually anyway and then it'll be MY turn to pick the new bedding.

Re: Registering Has Not Been Fun For Me
I'm sorry you've been having a tough time! I understand completely. So far FH has been pretty good, but he's a Dr. Jackyll/Mr. Hyde type, so you really never know which one you're going to get. You would think he's a gemini....Maybe it would help if you register online for a while and just add a whole bunch of stuff (even overlaps), and then sit down together to weed through it?

Re: Registering Has Not Been Fun For Me
I did it online without FH. He really doesn't care about the stuff. As we get closer to my shower, I'll have him look at it and see if there is anything he really hates.

Haha, we avoided to comforter situation in the store and then spent at least two hours looking for one we agreed on online. He finally agreed on one I Iiked I think only becuase the name of it was the last name of one his best friends (this is what I deal with). I am also anticipating the FDNY/sports stuff issue , I am hoping we find a house with a nice basement so he can go to town down there and not have pictures of fires in my living room! Good Luck!

Re: Registering Has Not Been Fun For Me
This is what I tell FH all the time 'You bought the ring and popped the question. Your work is done. Now I take over.'
I understand your pain - all of a sudden FH has opinions on things he was never interested in. It makes me crazy.
