registering vent

registering vent

FH and I went to BBB yesterday to register. We already registered at Fortunoff and figured we'd try BBB for some other things.

So we sat down with the woman - who was very nice. But then she was asking if we registered for China. So i say 'no, we are NOT registering for China'

this is where she got really annoying - she went on and on about how she uses her China all the time, when she has friends over she takes it out and uses it because her everyday set is crappy, FINE, good for you (why don't you just buy a new set of everyday dishes??)

so then she makes us follow her to the china section where she goes on and on, making up fake place settings and encouraging us to get China. Fh and I are getting really annoyed. I tell her - listen im just not the type who is going to take out china or the type who is going to take it out for holidays. (my mom uses hers 2x a year and its just a pain) I say -we both have really big immediate families and if we are having them all over on a holiday we arent using China anyway, I go on to say we already bought everyday dishes (2 seets - thats 24 dishes and etc..) that are actually really nice and could be considered China. So she tells us we should get another set of everyday dishes and use the others as china ARRRGGGG

this is how we felt It was so annoying - just leave us alone to register and stop pushing us to register for something we dont want.

my DH and I experienced this as BBB as well. so we didn't have to waste time with the girl there, we just picked a random set to shut her up and when we got home, we took it off......... it was truly annoying though so I feel your pain. We aren't china people either........

oh good it wasnt just me

yeah i told her that we registered at Fortunoff (but i made the mistake - i should have just said yes we already registered for China)

I t hink i might just cancel my BBB registry. The things we didnt reg at fortunoff for we help out to see it at BBB and they pretty much were the same so i rather have it all at fortunoff. we only reg for about 10 things at BBB

2 things to keep in mind tho..........
i dont know your family but i have seen from personal experience ( from my friends wedding) people seem to think fortunoffs is too expensive and look for somewhere else to get the same thing fro cheaper.. BBB can add anything from your fortunoffs registry to your BBB registry for you if they carry it and you give them premission to do so. People also like that they can use coupons at BBB

#2- BBB gives you cash back on anything from your registry ( as long as it it marked off as purchased) so if u decide you dont want or need something that was bought you can return it for cash. Just thought id mention that.

Re: registering vent

They can definitely be pushy at times....I registered for my china at Fortuneoff and the woman at BBB was INSISTING I also register for more at BBB....I kept asking her why? She said it was because people could use their coupon and if I got extras I could always return them...I didn't see the need (esp saying we got ALL of our china within the first month of being engaged!)

I am glad you stood your ground!

we only went to the store once to register at Fortunoffs...the lady asked if I wanted help, i lied and told her I helped a friend before and she left me alone...I started the BBB registry online....I keep putting off going to the stores after the horror stories.....luckily I live near the West Babylon store and have not heard too many bad things about that one....i would have probably asked the woman 2x to stop with the China, and the 3rd time she continued on, i would have jsut left...I don;t like pushy people EVER. argh

Re: registering vent

They're list is just a copy of their merchandise. And they are so many repeats. How many can openers do I really need? That bothered me!

I had my father go through the list and cross out things I wouldn't really need. Like a breadmaker. That's what wonderbread is for.

I'm sure some of the gadgets I would use, like I just bought a salad spinner and love it. But other wouldn't get any use like the showtime rotisserie that FH wanted.

Basically register for things you really need or will use (think about what you use already). Ask yourself would I buy this on my own?

I did register for china but they had me register for everyday place settings that cost as much as the china! I went back and registered for basic white plates for everyday.

Re: registering vent

when we registered they were pushy about the china situation also...our only saving grace was that we were able to say thanks, but FH's mother gave us her mother's china...it was true and he sorta had nothing to say about that afterwards...sorry you had such an annoying experience...did you get to register for what you wanted after?

Re: registering vent

There was no need for that. The point of registering is so that you get what you want!

Re: registering vent

That is annoying, and rude. I was going to say that maybe she gets a commission for it, but, after reading what Heather said, that's not the case.

But, doesn't the company make enough money????

Re: registering vent

omg that would annoy me to no end!!! I'm not registering for china either... we never really used my great grandmother's china... and if we have everyone over for a holiday 12 setting isn't gonna cut it!!! I'm to nervous to break a place setting that costs $125 .. and i feel like it'll just be wasted on me..lol. I understand they are trying to make money for the store.. and yes china def. does that.. but don't be so freaking nasty and pushy about it.. i would have walked out and done my registry online...lmaooo
