Is anyone else finding this very hard? I have been doing this online, and will go to the stores too, but how in the world can I pick towels, plates, bedding when I have no idea what my decor (wall color, etc) will be? I have been getting neutrals which is boring ... but I just don't know if I will want to paint my bedroom, kitchen, etc - we are moving to NH next year. What if I like the wall colors and everything as is? What if it's red and I like that, but I registered for a boring beige bedding set?
I want to register for this stuff, because a) i need new things, all of mine are cheap; b) it's the only chance you have, really, to make a list of things you want and need and people will just go buy it; c) if I don't register, I'll get stuff I do not need or want, I'm sure. But it's really, really hard when you know you won't be living in the same place you are now, and when you have no idea what colors you'll have to work with.

im finding it hard too -- we are running out of things to register for because we arent buying a house yet -- we dont even know what city we will be in.
we are looking at neutral colors for bedding (blues or beiges which i have always liked) and we registered for blue towels and white towels. we also registered for white everyday dishes with blue and taupe accent plates that we can always swap out for other colors.
FH wanted to register for a couch but i told him we need to wait until we move and know what the layout of our place will be like.
its hard... so we have a lot of kitchen appliances

i know how you feel. We're in an apartment now and hope to buy a condo in a year or two. I've just been registering for stuff that catches my eye and i really like. The bedroom set i registered for is sort of neutral. We picked out a bathroom set that had a palm tree theme, which fh loves.

I would love to register for furniture - we do need this. But, we are moving out of state and have no room for any furniture in our apt. now. So, it would go in storage ... which we don't have the money for. I registered for a lot of kitchen stuff too ... mostly that is what it is. I may register at like EMS or ****'s too, to get some things for us that we will use on the honeymoon or just whenever - sleeping bags, etc, since we go camping a lot. The towels and bedding is the hardest!

Yes -- but I won't be moving until 1 year after I am married. Some things - towels, bedding, plates - will be boxed until then. Can I return them so long after I get them? I don't want to paint my whole house to match my shower gifts, you know? I did pick plates that are neutral with a kick - a paisley pattern that has browns and ivory in it - but I'm thinking that for everything else, we'll just do ivory.

if you reg at BBB - they have a two-year return policy...
Plus - you can also register there and return for cash. Put that money aside (if you're good like that) and use it to purchase household items when you do get a more perm place....
'I don't want to paint my whole house to match my shower gifts, you know?' Yeah, I know what you mean...

Good to know. Maybe I should get the colored items there. Some are now, some are at Macys. If I returned, I would just gift cards so that I do not spend it!

Re: Registering when you don't know your decor???
i thought it would be hard and procrastinated registering for so long but once i did i had so much fun. before i went to the store i would look online and felt overwhelmed but at the store i just loved everything it became no problem.
i know i LOVE green, golds, glass/crystal, ivory, yellow and these can be accent colors to so many other colors. just pick what u like and it will work out well - if u are not crazy about neutrals go for color! oh and i also love things with multi colors - like rainbow polka dotted mugs .. it goes in the cabinet and when its out its fun and colorful!
towels get put away anyway-get crazy colors! and neutrals with pretty design for 'show towels' and 'hand towels' and throughout the years that kinda stuff u end up buying yourself anyway!
also look for stuff you never would buy for yourself but aunt sue wants to get for you -crystal anything, artwork, ect..
i recommend bbb = having a great experience with them and hear the returns wont be a problem up to 2 years.

yes same here.... We live in an apartment now and in the next year or two we wil be buying a house.. i bought a lot of neutrals but I know I want my kitchen to have some type of green color in it so Im keeping that. our bedding is from BBB its almost all white with small green flowers only at the bottom.. so we wont have to paitn the room green but you can always accent with paint , pillows or throws, or even accent furniture

Re: Registering when you don't know your decor???
I haven't started to register yet but I can imagine I'm going to encounter the same problem. FH and I haven't moved out yet soI'm probably just going to register for neutral colors for the bedroom and pick some sort of color for the kitchen and bathroom. I don't know what Im going to do about my living room :

I know what you mean, that's why I refuse to register until we have a place and I decided on how i'm going to decorate...most people don't do that, but i'm so anal..

Re: Registering when you don't know your decor???
I know exactly what you mean. We registered over the weekend and were really overwhelmed. We are going to be moving within the year, but don't know where yet... so we don't really know what colors etc... I am still working on it. we only registered for a few things. i registered for some neutral stuff, but I think I am going to add some color too. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem.

try registering at places that have an awesome return policy, like cash back or store credit for over a year.

Re: Registering when you don't know your decor???
In the same boat. When we first did the regisrty we didn't put on any towel, sheet, etc. Now that we do have an apartment everything is beige, so I still don't know what I want to register for.

Re: Registering when you don't know your decor???
i feel the same way - i have a feeling our house will be similair to our apartment BUT who knows - i might change my mind by then and be sick of the colors we have now....we also will be keeping everything boxed for about a year - we plan on moving to florida sometime after the wedding....im just going to register for things i like and i hope i still like them when we move - if i dont like the towels or bedding anymore i'll use it in one of our guest bedrooms - we also decided to register for different things since we have a lot already - appliances that we dont have room for now, a nice stainless grill for the backyard, a dyson....but yeah its hard to think of things when you have no clue what your house will be like!

Re: Registering when you don't know your decor???
I just picked stuff I liked....and FH too....we picked colors that would go with our dream house. and if the first one isn't like that, we'll make it work! I'm also not really anal about this type of thing so, we'll make it work!
