You're more than normal. If you don't want it, you don't want it. I had no desire either. FH and I registered for white porcelain plates at Williams Sonoma. They can be used for every day and occasions. I know it's not the china as much as FMIL in the ear...and that, my friend, just is what it just is...

i dont think its odd. but if FH feels strongly about it and his mom is going to pay for it anyway, i really wouldnt fight about it either

even if you find it a waste of money, i would probably still just get it. just tell him that he is in charge of figuring out how to store it and take care of it since you dont care

not odd at all .. FMIL tried convincing me to get china too ... but it's it's not happening.

like you said, i don't host big parties, and if i do, then i will use regular plates. i'd rather get other gifts, or even cash, as opposed to china.

i don't even have room to store china in my 1 bedroom apt!

china is stupid! lol

Re: China Drama

My mom was upset when my sister didn't register for china, but now thinks it was a really good idea. when would she use it?

I have been going back and forth about it, I am 'inheriting' a set of china from a friend of the family who is cleaning out his house, and right now it's being stored at my mom's... so I won't be registering, but even if I weren't getting that set, I probably wouldn't be registering for it anyway...

Why clutter up storage space??

Exactly..I get told I'm a hoarder bc my closets are unorganized lol but I'm gonna store a box of china that will collect dust for the next 10 years in there .

I'm not registering for china. I don't have a hutch and I don't host big parties so it would be a waste. Instead, I just registered for everyday dinner ware.

UGH my mom calls me a hoarder bc of my junk mail table. Seriously anyone who has seen hoarders and still calls messy or disorganized people hoarders really piss me off!! I'm not living in roaches and garbage!! I feel you!! As far as the china, we registered for it because of pressure. And got like, 3 place settings. I don't see what the effin point was. What a waste. I feel you, and I'm sorry you have to deal with it

Edited to remove quote, sorry didn't notice that.

Re: China Drama

I also know someone who registered for china, didn't get it all, and decided it would be too much money to buy the rest of the set, so she returned the ones she got and took the money!!

sounds like you won't be able to do THAT, though...

still, it's YOUR choice... if you don't want it, don't get it... she can buy you a nice crystal bowl instead of china. or what about just a serving platter or something china-related?? it's an old tradition....

I totally understand why you would not want to register for China. FH and I are not bc we just simply will not use it.

It's nice that FH mom wants to buy you something but why would she want to buy you something you guys are not going to use??? Maybe he should just tell her its not nessisary but suggest an alternative gift to give to you guys.
