My mom has been asking us to register before the engagement party. I have always thought that you registered before the shower but after the engagement party... your thoughts?

you should register before your engagement party and then you can always add more stuff later for your shower

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
I didn't register for the e-party. A lot of people asked if we had registered but I chose not too. We got mostly money and a few gifts mostly crystal stuff, champagne flutes, picture frames, vases. All very nice stuff.
I registered for the shower for all our housewares and things.

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
OK ladies, I guess my mom was right on this one! We'll have to register the weekend after labor day I guess... so strange! I feel like we have so much stuff to begin with, we don't need anything more, but I guess there are those one or two things I can always use more of!

See, that's just it. We've been living together for 2 years now, have most of the things that we need, living in the apartment. We will be buying a house soon, but not until next spring the earliest. The Eparty is in October.... IDK... still not sure.

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
Do it! People are going to bring you gifts anyway. It is better to get stuff you like rather than crap you don't. We got about have gifts and half cash at ours. You can always go back and register for more later

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
I have to say that my engagement party is next weekend and my Mom told me to register for gifts, which FH and I did a while ago, while LIW girls said it was not necessary. Well, I listened to mom and included my registry info on the invite. I already see (due to registry stalking) that I have some major things off my registry. So, I am happy I registered before the party. HTH

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
we didn't register for our e-party... keep in mind you don't wanna register too far in advance because a lot of things may become discontinued
we received a couple gifts, but mostly cash

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
Its true that some things may be discontinued by the wedding if you register early, but just be a proactive bride and check every once in awhile. We are having a two year engagement but registered right away that way people had ideas for birthdays/christmases and the like. Also, I'll be out of the country for most of our engagement and I wanted to see everything in person.
If you feel weird about registering beforehand, its not like you HAVE to put the info on your invites. People will ask you, or they'll just look up you're name, it won' t look bad on you.

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
I registered for my eparty as well (because my mom thought I should ... seems to be the same for a few of us )
IMO you should register, if not you may get gifts you don't want/need/like with out a gift receipt. I registered at BBB and they told me I could return the gifts with out the reciept for cash if I wanted too... but so far we kept all our gifts
Good Luck & Have fun!

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
We registered before our e-party. We received a pretty even split between cash and gifts.

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
If guests are gonna bring gifts, might as well be something you wanted. I'd make a small registry so you can get some cash gifts,t oo.

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
I refused to register.. I thought the engagement party was for $$$ gifts.. If you were to get all your gifts for your e-party why have a shower?
I am SO glad i didnt register.. I got mostly money and it is helping bigtime when planning the wedding.

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
Thinking of just registering for a few small items, for those family members of my grandparent's generation who would prefer to bring gifts....

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
I would make a small registry in case people do not want to give you money and would rather bring a gift. But make sure people are hearing about it by word of mouth. I don't think a registry card should be included in the invitations.

Re: Registration for the Engagement Party
This is going to sound harsh but its my opinion:
I do not like engagement parties. They seem to be just another way to get a gift out of someone. With that said, I do not think you should register for your engagement party. Leave actual gifts for your shower.
