Registries - Do you have any advice or warnings?

Registries - Do you have any advice or warning

If you have the time, go to Macy's at Herald Square. That is where we started our registry. I found it to be organized, and there is so much to choose from, you will be a little overwhelmed. Also, we were there for about 2-1/2 hours, and we only got a fraction of our registry done.

I am registered at Pennys and Target. I found Target a much more pleausreable experience than Pennys. At Target they gave us a scanning gun and let us explore the store and put on what we wanted. At Pennys we had to pick out what we wanted then the assistant would come behind us and scan it. It was very time comsuming!

Registries - One more thing...

I have heard you can register for anything these days. Again, it's a 'know your crowd' choice. I don't think my guests will be inclined to get my fiance the Playstation 2 that he wanted to register for but supposedly, it is acceptable to put these items (maybe he will get it as a wedding gift from me)

Of course, I still have little things to think about, but I think the major things(except the honeymoon) will all be booked by end of this month.

I agree with a lot that was said ---
Be careful of going to a larger store of a particular chain--for example the Macys in Herald Square might have more but then when your guests go to their local Macys they cant find what you want

I can't stand going to Macy's anymore because every time I go there they are completely disorganized, merchandise all over the floor, etc. I could certainly never recommend it.

I will offer this:

1. Don't go too early because inventories change (especially bedding and towels are seasonal) and you run the risk of items you take the time to pick out being discontinued or back ordered which makes it harder for your guests to shop and for you to receive the items you want.

Another thing I liked about Macy's is that things go on sale all the time. Several items I placed on the registry, such as my everyday Pfalzgraf that is regularly marked $39/set, has been on sale for $29.00 on 3-4 occasions since we registered in November.

I did not read all the responses, so forgive me if I repeat advice. We registered at Fortunoff and Macys. Almost everyone went to Macys for engagement gifts, so we really only have Fortunoff stuff left. We had no problems and went to multiple Macy's to put on what we needed. For example, Macy's Roosevelt Field has expensive sheets and Macy's Massapequa has the cheaper ones. You probably found that they are disorganized and have little stock because it is after the holidays. Most stores are doing inventory soon and they will be better stocked in about a month. If you can wait that long, I would strongly advise it.

We're going with Fortunoff's and Bed Bath and Beyond at the end of Feb. I worked for Federated for 10 years (Macys, Sterns, Bloomingdales) and I know better! LOL

Registries - TARGET and JCPENNEY

We also used Target and JCP for our NOV2000 wedding. Although I wrote about this then, I will write it again...

Registries - Sears Trouble

I've heard Sears is in some business trouble again and might be closing some stores.

I live in Boston too but am getting married on Long Island as well. We registered at Bed bath and beyond, which we jsut loved. Crate and Barrel and Fortunoffs, which for NY and NJ people are great. Hey where do u live in Boston and when is your weddingZ???

I called the travel agency and was told in July, the average temperature for that time would be between 85-95 degrees. Yikes... :-)
