Registries: If what you really need is $ and not stuff
Original post by quirkybride
Is there a polite way to get this message out to guests? What we'd really like is to save up for a house. Don't want to be offensive or seem stingy.

Everyone keeps saying you can't ask for money at the shower. My problem isn't the shower It's the wedding. Most of my guests are coming from the west coast where gifts are customary at weddings. Showers are usually longerie. So I know I will be stuck with gifts at my wedding! No way around it.
Delete your registry a few months before the wedding. that will HELP
I did that. I deleted it about a month ago.. after christmas bc a lot of people still bought me christmas gifts from it..
When I deleted it, I only had 3 things left on it anyway.

Can't you return things from BBB for cash?? Or how about an Amazon registry. Register for a lifetime supply of toilet paper??
'
Only some BBB do cash.. the one in lake grove does not.

Imagine?? can people be that dumb, yeah i suppose.
WOW.. I wouldn't really call someone who is BUYING you a gift DUMB.. honestly I am happy and grateful with whatever people choose to do. The most you can do is 'suggest' things via registry, do an online honeymoon registry or tell whoever is throwing your shower to mention to guests you could use cash.
Other than that the bottom line is people like your close FAMILY and FRIENDS might want to choose a nice gift that they think you would APPRECIATE. But I guess weddings and gifts are all about being selfish now???... quite a sense of entitlement there.
YEa totally agree with this! JMO you should be grateful for anything you get, most people put a lot of thought into gifts.

haha! Bringing random gifts to a wedding is kind of like a nono nowadays- for the most part. Wedding gifts are yes, to help pay for your wedding plain and simple.
My FH found the houseregistry website but it has a lot of fees, and seems shady, Maybe theres a better one, I also want to find a better honey moon registry with not a lot of fees, im sure there's one out there
