If you purchase a wedding gift for the couple, off a registry, is it also commonplace that you will give money gift at the wedding?
And what amount do you typically given per person? Would you give less if you buy a gift?
If the wedding is standard reception hall or hotel or country club does it make a difference what you give?
If your FH is a groomsman, do you give extra, even though he's been assigned duties and spending about $200 to fulfill them.
TIA!

Re: registry and money gift questions...?
Typically in NY you would give a gift off the registry for an engagment gift or shower gift not the actually wedding. A typical wedding gift in NY is cash. I know outside of NY it is tradition to bring a gift to the wedding.
As far as how much to spend, that usually depends on what you can afford and where the wedding is. Typically you want to at least cover your plate so if you know the hall charges about $150 per plate you want to give at LEAST $300 per couple. If it is a lower end wedding lets say at a Knights of Columbus or a small wedding in a restauarant I would say you could give less. (I would assume if they are on a low budget, they shoul not be expecting extrememly expensive gifts, that is unless you can easily afford it) You have to use judgement on what the cost of the plate is (JMO).
Of all the weddings I have been a brides maid in, I still gave the same about for a gift as if I wasn't in it at all. These people were my closest friends so it did cost me a lot more in the end when you add up the dress, shoes, hair, makeup, etc. But I didn't do less on their gift.
All just my opinions.

A gift is a gift. Give whatever you want to give and it will be appreciated. People dont invite you to their weddings just for a gift. A gift is just an added bonus.

Re: registry and money gift questions...?
If you purchase a wedding gift for the couple, off a registry, is it also commonplace that you will give money gift at the wedding? one or the other, but typically cash unless they want gifts, but the gift should be sent to their house, not brought 2 the wedding.
And what amount do you typically given per person? $100-$200 depends on how well I know the couple
Would you give less if you buy a gift? if i purchased a gift it would equal the amount i would have given in cash
If the wedding is standard reception hall or hotel or country club does it make a difference what you give? i would give the same no matter what, the venue really doesnt make a difference. Giving a monetary gift depending on what the couple paid per plate is B-S. Give what you can whether it be generous or not, and dont penalize the couple if they had a less expensive wedding, & dont feel obligated to give more because the wedding is extravagant, that is the couples choice not yours.
If your FH is a groomsman, do you give extra, even though he's been assigned duties and spending about $200 to fulfill them. I wouldnt give extra. I'd give the standard gift. I really dont expect our bp to contribute anything because they are doing so much already, so anything they give us will be a bonus, and much appreciated!
