we haven't done ours yet but i worked at linens n things for like 5 years so i have some opinions....
As far as prices, it really depends. IMO it makes sense to register for more expensive higher quality items that you use often or will be on you - like sheets (above 200-300 thread count at least) and towels, also if you cook a lot then the kitchen stuff is important like a really good set of knives (I also recommend henckels or wusthoff) and cutting boards, good pots and pans (calphalon $$$$, circulon/farberware $$). Also if you are a coffee drinker and don't have it, i love love love my keurig. it's the best thing ever b/c i drink coffee and FH doesn't but he'll make hot chocolate... it's so much less wasteful and there is a cheaper version for $99.
i have the list of all the stuff i'm supposed to register for.
but i know nothing about any of those things...
what makes something a good iron? ROWENTA IS A GREAT BRAND - PICK MIDDLE OF THE LINE; NO ONE NEEDS A $200+ IRON UNLESS YOU ARE A DRY CLEANER
what are good towels? RALPH LAUREN (OVERPRICED BUT NICE) ROYAL VELVET.... Go by feel, the softer it feels in the store the better it will feel on you - besides matching towels def get a bunch of big bath sheets for the shower; that's like all I want for towels - a few wash and hand clothes also.
do i register for expensive pillows that i love? or does that look pretentious? IT DOESN'T LOOK PRETENTIOUS - IT'S YOUR ONE CHANCE TO GET THEM AND PILLOWS ARE IMPORTANT!
i'm a Walmart/Payless kind of gal. I'd never buy 80% of the stuff on my registry bc it's too expensive for me. I don't know what reasonably priced registry items are.
Is it okay to have a few things over $100? what about $200? YES BECAUSE YOUR GUESTS WANT A RANGE OF CHOICES
we registered for one BIG BIG thing, the iJoy chair, but that's just to get a discount on when we complete the registry.
i don't think we're registering for fancy china which is what is usually the most expensive on the registries i've seen. CHINA IS DEF THE MOST EXPENSIVE THING
does that mean we can register for a more expensive blender? ABSOLUTELY IF IT'S SOMETHING YOU WILL USE OFTEN - CUISINART ALSO MAKES A GREAT MINI FOOD PROCESSOR - IT'S GREAT FOR CHOPPING FOR JUST TWO PEOPLE. BRAUN IS PRETTY GOOD TOO. I AM obsessed with the kitchenaid mixer; i have been since forever so it will definitely be on mine - that's like $300 but i don't care.
that kind of stuff is what i'm having trouble with.
thanks for the list though!
sorry for the looong email and caps!
